My initial (professional) opinion just based on info above, this is most likely because your computer has malware of some type. If you go to a website and are re-directed, the problem is almost always within your computer. Suggest you update/upgrade you anti-virus software. edited by kds_comics on 8/8/2016 |

I think you can thank the much maligned variant craze for people taking a new view on second prints. People will pay for manufactured scarcity now and all modern reprintings have lower print runs.
It's called insanity!!! No wait - it is called good business, trying to help retailers make a buck.
Nothing wrong with that. I pick up variants only if dirt cheap, but I am a cheap b@*&@^d. If you have perspective on variants from the 1990's... most are barely above the price for a regular comic. Be careful.. be very careful.

Increased Value of Autographed Comics
kds_comics

The comic is worth guide value. The signature is worth - what? For Mark Hammil maybe $20 to $50 retail (At least that is what the entertainer charges. )
If they both have value independently, do they have more value together, or less?
Some folks here like their comics pristine. I like an autograph myself, but how much it add to comic is partly sentimental value. Marv Wolfman is one of my favorite writers and I have a few books autographed by him. Probably worth more to me than to others.
As Ox noted, not a set standard. I would add to guide price for autograph. How much? Marv I am sure signed thousands of comics. George Perez has probalbe signed close to 10,000 as he often went to shows and LCS ten years ago. I have know Stan Lee to sign a DC comic - he will sign almost anything. Lot's of Stan autographs out there - but Stan is more desirable.
So I would add to comic value for signature - how much - you will have to decide for yourself. |

You can look them up here - search "files". The CPG search does not always handle special characters well in the search engine.
The good news is that they are X-Files popular TV series. The bad news is they are from the 1990's where comics runs ran to seven figures, if you know what i mean. edited by kds_comics on 8/19/2016 |

KDS Back Issues: The Unusual, The Weird, The Cool!

Here are some odds and ends...
Back in the day Marvel re-printed several comic issues in about a 5" by 7" format and called the "backpack" books. larger than paperback - smaller than trades or comics. Here's one. I guess you could hide it in your backpack and take it to school.

No comment here - just a cool cover.

Continuing with a few miscellaneous Marvel comics - cover coolness,,,

That's all for now. Will post more often if I can get it together.

It's the colon that can mess up the search. Remember is it Punisher (colon) (space) War Zone. Same for War Journal and many other titles - the punctuation makes it tough to find. |

The Poly Bag

Poly bags aren't comics. They are bags. Some anal collectors will care about the bag but it's just a bag. I usually cut them open and bag the comic and any other contents and either toss the bag or fold it up and put it behind the bag opposite the comic behind the board.
Have you seen where a toy from the 1950's is worth more if it is in original bag? When poly bags are not quite that important, but are part the the packaging.
Cut the top of the bag open carefully - you are not loosing any value here.
I keep the original polybag with the comic in a bag/board. The board is needed to keep the comic in good condition. Often - like noted here for Excalibur 75 - the addition of a polybag is worth a minimal amount. Mostly because the publisher made too many.
After the great comic book price crash in the 1990's - secondary retailer packed "grab bags" of comics together in third party polybags. These should be discarded. Only the publisher's polybag should be kept., Think of it as a novelty or a curiosity. A part of the set. Yeah, that's it.

I have an issue of The Losers #15 in its unopened clear polybag with the World of Tomorrow disc inside. I haven't had the heart to open it but came across an opened copy without the disc to use as a reading copy. Looking through the bag the comic doesn't look that bad or affected by staying in its bag (around 12-13 years!). I'm guessing some polybags are not "acid-free" leading to degradation over time.
If a polybag is air tight - then that is fine. If air gets in the interior pages fade. Best to open the bag and put both in bag/board.
BTW - If you want some faded comics that had been in polybags unopened for years - let me know - I have dozens. |

Its me again. The indefeasible KDS.Godzilla comics in a dealer's $1 box - I'd hit that. So I did. Not in as good of condition as I would have liked, but one can't have everything.

Need I explain these Godzilla - I think they give off the "what the #%$@ ?" value all by themselves..
Here are a couple of better ones for your enjoyment. Significantly more than $1 on these.

If you ware willing to sell for 25% of guide price, folks will likely take a change on your on eBay.

Marvel's ressurecting 70s bargain bin characters
kds_comics
|
From a business standpoint - the character is already created. No further money is needed to develop and create it. And with creation - legal problems with creators over money and creative control. Most folks today have never heard of them, or only vaguely heard of these 1970's characters. So they are new, and fresh (The "everything old is new again" philosophy - how many retro shops sell tie-dye clothing? Hmm?)
Marvel really exploded with characters in the 1970's. You only need to look through Marvel Premiere to find hits (Warlock, Iron Fist) and misses (3-D Man, Satana, Monark Starstalker, Wierdworld, Kane and Torpedo.)
Marvel Feature with Ant-Man and the Defenders had a short-lived run.
Marvel also reprinted 1950's horror/monster comics and created "Tales of Suspense" featuring The Living Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein, Man-Wolf and others.)
One of most unusual stories I read recently is where Man-Wolf goes to another world - he has enhanced powers there. He leads a revolt and overthrows the current ruler with a very cool looking sword.
Crazy stuff in 1970s - every thing from outer space detectives playing off TV shows at the time (early Starlord - no special power - just a pistol) to 1950's monsters to new scary, suspense and superhero stories.
Better than the 1980's where they got rid of all the crazy stuff and went super hero only.
Just my opinion.
