Yeah. I should have quit reading. Actual discussion about comics is so slow here thatI can read everything new in about 2 minutes.
Most of the conversation here is about missing issues or minor corrections of comics I'll never buy.
We used to have discussion about completing sets of comics from a publisher. |

Sooooo, who's watching it? What are your thoughts? Do you have a favorite episode?
I'm gonna be honest. I can't remember specifics from a lot of the episodes without looking into it. I don't know. They were all okay, but none of them were great? Like, I don't regret watching them, but I'm truly not going to remember any of them in a month or so.
The first episode with Peggy as a super soldier was probably my favorite, if I had to pick one. Not sure why. Maybe because I have a soft spot for female protagonists.
I watched the first episode, a few minutes of the second episode, and the episode with Dr. Strange & his girlfriend.
The first one didn't appeal to me at all. It bored me. The second one bored me so I quit watching. I had high hopes for the Dr. Strange episode, but it was just really stupid.
I do not plan on watching anymore.
The Dr. Strange episode made no sense to me because it conflicted with the events in the movie, yet the cartoon made it appear that the events in the movie were impossible.
I just felt that all of it was really poor writing. I feel that the animation is overly cliche with exaggerated expressions and reactions.
The only thing I liked about any of them is that they got some of the actual actors to do the voice work on many characters. Everything else was forgettable. |

Being different than the movies is the whole point of the series. In the Dr. Strange episode, the whole premise is What If instead of becoming a cripple, he lost the love of his life? Instead of spending his life trying to get his old life back, he spends it trying to simply bring her back to life. It's that driving force that takes him down a dark path while he tries to change the unchangeable.
That's what the multiverse is all about. One small change can have a drastic impact on the outcome of everything else.
I fully understand the premise. I understand the concept of string theory and M-Theory which would make infinite universes possible.
The cartoon ~should~ be an alternate timeline from the one depicted in the movie. Yet in the cartoon, the movie timeline is not even possible. It's "What if he lost the love of his life?" AND it was impossible to diverge in any other direction. It's two "what if" scenarios.
What joy should I be getting from a cartoon about a man losing the person loves the most? I don't see that as an entertaining plot. Maybe it's too close to home since the girl I wanted to marry died in a car wreck 30 years ago.
The premise loses me.
The story is sadistic. The lesson learned is child-like. It's not what I want from a "What if?" television show. None of the episodes have been what I want.
I'm glad you like it.. The effort they spent making it wasn't done in vain.
Overall, I haven't found any of the Marvel Studios shows on Disney+ that entertaining. If I was paying for the service I would cancel it.
I've seen everything free. WandaVision was horrid, but Loki ended up being worse. The only thing close to being worthwhile was Falcon & the Winter Soldier.
I really don't care about Hawkeye as a character, so I don't have any bottled up anticipation hoping for it to show up.
I feel like everything has creatively imploded at Marvel Studios. |

I can see your point with the Dr Strange story. You're right in that even though the tragedy was different, he still became a sorcerer. No matter what happened to him, he was always destined to become what he did.
I felt the same sort of "meh" towards the Star Lord / T'Challa episode. It just seems unlikely to me that some smooth talking rich kid would be able to 'set straight' a bunch of murderous thugs right from the start of their time together.
And I'm kind of with you on all of the shows not being spectacular. Each one had it's moments, but overall they were just filler while I'm waiting for movies to come out.
Honestly, my favorite Marvel TV show is still Agents of Shield. I know a lot of people didn't like it, but that seems pretty typical for the stuff I enjoy most.
I know Agents of Shield got better, but it started off so poorly that I lost interest very early. I watched the season with Ghost Rider and I enjoyed that. I think that was followed with a season featuring the Kree. They lost me again. Youtube has Absorbing Man video clips from the show. I'd have enjoyed that most likely, but the inconsistency of the show was too much. I was either very interested, or completely bored. When one episode got boring, it was followed by 4 more boring episodes. I'd rather just watch the old B&W Superman TV series. It was enjoyable and simple. Most of all, it was very consistent. |

Comics from this series would have been thrown away at a higher rate since they were free and didn't have a large number of people collecting them.
Due to the low demand for them by collectors, the value tends to be low.
For this reason, not a lot of people are scanning them.
In my searches for comic scans online, I see a lot of very low quality scans being shared by all the major sites because no one takes the time or effort to scan a better copy.
I own #47 and my copy is scanned.

FYI
There were 2 series. The first series was $1.95 and sold mostly outside of comic shops.through retailers like Walmart or toy stores.
The 2nd series reprints stuff from previous comics and they were sold mainly through comic shops with a price of $1.50. The 1st series was published in much higher quantities.
Although I don't search extensively or buy online, I have never seen many of $1.50 reprints for sale to this day. My goal was to own them all, but it just never happened. |

These were separate series published at different times.
I didn't click the links, but if they are listed as variant's of one another with different prices, that is wrong.
There are likely some variants on the 1st series, but not the second. There are some really hard to find Nintendo variants like the ones sold with cassettes and such. edited by Defiant1 on 10/9/2021 |

There is evidence of cover (branding) variants being produced for different regions.
Here is an image of #36 branded as JB's. https://www.comics.org/issue/207917/cover/4/
There is a 1956 series from Marvel with and without the Shoney's name.
Big Boy is featured on both with the artwork evidently modified for the region in which it was released.
"East" Version

"West" version https://www.comics.org/issue/206954/cover/4/

I think that is the wrong way to list them. It's reprinted material, but the $1.50 reprints will have early ads for the superhero stuff that wasn't in the first series.
Cool (rarely seen) ads like this..
The first series has glossy card stock covers. The second series is normal cover stock.
Content from the first Nintendo series' (plural) was reprinted in multiple formats. The stories are probably switched around, but I haven't compared them side by side.
There are Mario Action books. There are hardcovers. There are Softcovers...

I agree 100%.
My first hobby at about age 8 was stamp collecting. I first went through the house soaking stamps off of old envelopes and putting them in a stamp album. I was having fun. Then I started vising a stamp and coin store at the local mall and I could get things I'd never see otherwise. One day I'm at the stamp & coin store and an older collector told me I was doing it wrong.
He said I should be buying uncancelled stamps and I should be using expensive plastic sleeves to slide the stamps into.
He said that is what real stamp collectors do.
I realized that what I was doing for fun wasn't recognized by the community as "real" stamp collecting. I never bought another stamp.
I closed my stamp collection album and look at it maybe once in 25 years.
When CGC started taking off, I realized it was the comics hobby going the same direction. It's not something intended to be fun, it's a hobby to stroke some obsessive compulsive person ego and value their comics more.
The first time I saw someone advertising a CGC comic for sale, I clicked the link to a huge high quality image of a graded comic they were selling. The case was scratched and it dawned upon me... why would I want a perfect comic in a scratched case.
It defeats the purpose on having a nice comic (that you can't read) in a case that has a scratch that's an eye sore. I realized that there needs to be someone to grade the cases if they were going to be permanently encased in a scratched case. I got into an argument online as to whether the case was scratched.
I ignore what CGC is doing. I think it's a scam.
I've seen 9.6's with spine indentions and a color break. I've seen 9.4's that look perfect. I don't like writing on covers, even date codes. CGC disregards it. My criteria for liking comics has nothing to do with the CGC standards. I don't care about slightly blunted corners. That's an idiotic grading criteria that migrated over from the sports card grading. There's very little to look at on a sports cards, so someone just decided one day that it was relevant for comic collecting.
What used to be classified as Pristine Mint, is now a CGC 10.0, but the Overstreet price guide never listed prices for Pristine Mint. Overstreet listed prices for Near Mint. That was the target for an acceptable comic. If you got VF on an old comic, you were overjoyed. If you got a Fine on an old comic, you were pleased.
I now don't waste time buying comics that the CGC snobs are going to turn their nose up to. I buy rarities, obscure comics, novelty comics, and keys when priced reasonably. I buy stuff that may not appeal to everyone, but there is someone who will appreciate it enough that it won't need to be a CGC 9.8 to sell.
I do my own thing and I don't care what the CGC is doing.
A CGC case typically makes me uninterested in buying a seller's comic.
When I traded for an Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1994, the first thing I did was read it. I had $300 in it. It was a $900 copy. Now it's probably worth $25,000. If I want to read it... I will.
Collecting is pointless if you can't appreciate the stuff for what it is.
If you are buying encased comics, you might as well be collecting photographs of comics and calling that your hobby.
The difference between me collecting at age 8 and me collecting now, is that I don't care what or why other collectors do what they do.
I have opinions, but I don't really care. edited by Defiant1 on 10/10/2021 |

Some sellers may have customers who are loyal and willing to pay more because they know the transaction will have fewer problems. It interests me but I take nothing at face value when it comes to pricing.
Volatility isn't the right word, but it might be worthwhile to give comics a numerical rating based on how consistent the prices are in the market. Something akin to a reliability rating. |

Clearing the cache by itself did not correct the problem. Clearing the cookies of course logs me out. I cleared the cookies & cache and I could then see the listings. Once I logged in, I was unable to see the listings again.
I am using Firefox 94.0 Beta 4 on a desktop computer.
I'm upgrading to Beta 5 as I write this.
Edit: Updating to Beta 5 did not fix the problem. I can only see the listings in Firefox if I'm logged out.
Toggling my security add-ons to the off mode fixed nothing.

Can some help me on grade and value

People typically charge money to do comic appraisals. I glanced at a few. The images would have to be much higher quality to actually grade a comic with any accuracy.
Even then, pictures are deceiving.
Things that look like defects aren't.
Real defects may not be obvious. The few I glanced at appear to be on the low end of the the grading scale.
Somewhere in the range of "Good" condition. Only in comic collecting is a grade of "Good" considered bad. In other words, "Good" means bad & less desirable condition to collectors. |
