To Grade Or Not To Grade?

Subscribe to this site, and get them all into the DB as the standard default grade (9.4) then see what the values are showing you at that level, pick out the 'high value' and start doing a detail grade inspection on those and work your way down. There are lots of videos online that talk about what to look for in grading to get you started. Then if you find some that would really benefit from a CGC (or other) pro grade, take those steps. Just remember that to make it 'worth it' you gotta think about the cost of the grading together with the value.

Comics are going the same direction as magic cards and other collectables. It's the same path that 'high art' has always taken, along with high end cars. They are a place that the wealthy see that they can 'store' their cash and get returns. The aim is returns. The venture capitalists see a booming market and capitalizing on the services that support it. Investing is all about the service markets. If you see a trend, look and see what services will support that trend and buy them up. If you see that people like coffee, don't just go out and buy coffee beans, buy the companies that makes the roasters and the grinders. Buy cardboard production companies and trucks and corner real estate. All that said, I bet anything that those who now own CGC also own super high end comics and are pressuring the market to drive up those values.

Hey Ron, do you mean that you're looking to buy 1, 34, 40 and 60 only? I have some doubles that I'm happy to let go, but not of those specific ones.

The Maxx 1 glow in the dark

Hi y'all, I'm looking for the Maxx #1 glow in the dark cover and can't seem to find it. I feel like I must just be missing it because all the others (1/2s, ashcans, etc) are listed. Any help? Happy to add it if it's missing, but didn't want to double up if it's in there and I just can't find it.

Correct, the one Collectibleshop posted is the right one. For what ever reason Maxx had a bunch of ashcans. Looking in the cover doesn't seem to call it anything special. Like I said, happy to be the one to add it in with a scan and all the info, just didn't want to dup it if I was just missing it.

agree on the 3D version. Thanks for getting the glow added, agree, it's a fun cover. I've added it to my framed wall comics for now to be able to see the glow at night. Kinda fun. Thanks again y'all!

Trade vs Virgin Variant Covers

Agreed, it's all about the art. I enjoy it when there's some really cool cover available, but I gotta say I annoys me when you see a comic coming out and there's 10 or 15 covers, just seems silly. Give us 1 standard, and one cool variant and call it a day.

just looking through ebay it seems like the listings without the 'Gotham academy adventure' look like 'stock' photos where the ones with the extra wording are actual pictures of books with the spine and edges in the image.

New Key Issue Filter

very cool, thanks! Question, is there going to be a way for us to help out with that? A section in the 'edit' issue section? I see where in Dracula 1 it's marked as key, but say if I went to All Star Comics 58 (first app of Power Girl) it shows that is true, but not that it's a key. I'm sure some of us would be happy to help add 'keys'

Thanks again for the ongoing improvements!

I'll toss a hat in the ring...

This one? https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/action-comics/443/pjssjy

There are also a few 'Superman' issues that are Giant sized where he is looking at the reader - Examples:
https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/superman/183/xhsso
https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/superman/193/xhxyj
https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/superman/217/xnwul

I expect these are not the one you're looking for but if nothing else you got me going back and enjoying all those weird Superman covers from back then. They were great, so thanks for that!

Not sure if they are biting off more than they can chew these days but I just got one back from them and the label is sealed in there all crooked, going to have to send it back I expect. Wonder if they are a bit under staffed and so are rushing through it all.

Polybag Issues

Agree on the bags not being good for the comics. Just to put out there what I do incase it helps others. I always take them out of the bag (carefully) and put in a storage bag and board. If there's something in the bad (a card or poster or something) I put that in the storage bag on the other side of the board (not touching the comic) and then I fold the bag in half and put it in there too (again on the other side of the board) this is my way of satisfying my completionist tendency, but keeping the comic in good shape. If I'm going to send it off for grading, I just hold on the extra stuff in a bag/board of it's own.

maybe I'm alone in this, but I sure wish they would stop with the bags, and 10 different covers for each book.

I'm with you, I thought it was fine. A fun little way to spend 2 hours (or how ever long it was) Sometimes I think people forget that some movies are just movies, they don't all have to be works of art, just enjoy it and move on with your life :-)

That was me... guess I got logged out

Adding "Published" date when only year is known

Agreed that the date seems a little elusive on this one. Did some more research on it and for the most part the date is listed only as 1989. However, I found a few wikis for it where it's listed as Oct 1989. I did find one site that lists Nov 1988, but as most others have1989 I would lean to that year. Long story short I would say it's Oct 1989.
