Concerned about storing high value comics

You could transfer some offsite but the problem there is will you be able to control the climate as well as you can in your own home. I suppose you could store the most valuable books in a safety deposit box or something ... if they have ones large enough. Who do you get your comic insurance from? Perhaps look at some of the other insurance options out there. The are independent insurers such as CollectInsure that specialize in collectibles and their coverage may be better and possibly cheaper that going through a home insurer. I know, for example, you do not have to have appraisals to insure with them and the coverage cover books in transport as well.

Did he actually accept your offer? As in, yes I will sell you the book(s) for $18. Or did he not respond and you found the books for sale elsewhere as well as here? If he didn't respond then consider your offer was not accepted. If he took your money and didn't send the book(s) then that is a scam. If he didn't accept the offer it isn't. Cross posting books for sale is annoying but CPG doesn't forbid it and there are LOTS of sellers out there that cross post books for sale, so, unfortunately, you are going to have to live with that.

Just because an offer was made the seller does not have to accept it.

Not sure about the safety deposit boxes. I have just heard of some people doing this. I'm not sure how you can check Collect Insure but my understanding is that there are other independent specialized insurers out there. I suppose you could go with a storage facility but temperature controlled units are not cheap.

Well I guess I'm stupid then if I'm selling a book(s) I sell them in one place then if they don't sell I take them elsewhere....Call me old fashioned...I don't play games with people over what $2??

And yes he did accept my offer but when I got back to him (see I had to chase him after he accepted) he changed his story and did a backtrax then took the books down in question...That's when I found out he was doing what he as doing...Scamming someone is more than just taking their money which most people here seem to have no problem with....Oh well years ago tools like this got banned etc. because that wasn't tolerated now it's OK...Wow! I wanted to bring this to light but I guess I shouldn't have because people like getting taken I guess....More power to you...

Then you better stay away from places like Facebook, eBay, etc because there are plenty of sellers that post books for sale on multiple sites and pages. It is too bad that that the person accepted your offer but decided not to go through with the sale but if no money was taken it is not a scam. Scammers take money and don't give you product or don't give you product that is as advertised.

"Raw" Prices vs. "Graded" Prices

I find the Price Guide focuses on the wrong things, for example, a mainstream company that has a print run of over 300,000 copies and then sells because of a demand went from $2 to $800, but a comic that came out at the same time that only has less then 3,000 print goes from $2 to $3. Sorry in my book "demand" or "NOT', that lower print run is worth $100.

The wrong thing would be pricing any book with no demand and a "low" print run at an arbitrary price. There are loads of books that have "low" print runs when compared to the big two but that doesn't mean they those print runs are actually low. Take The Walking Dead #1. There were something like 7500 of those printed. Back then that would have been a really good print run for a smaller publisher and for a genre that hadn't experienced a comeback yet. Now though that 7500 usually cannot meet demand. There were likely a couple of hundred other books that had print runs smaller when TWD #1 came out but are not worth more than cover, if that, because there is no demand for them.

Demand dictates prices not how many were printed or how many surviving copies exist. You could have a book that had a print run in the thousands, tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands and still go up in price steadily because the supply never meets demand and, at the same time, have a book that only had a few hundred or few thousand print run be worth no more than cover because there simply is no demand for that book.

To Grade Or Not To Grade?

Not all books are worth grading. It is an expensive and time consuming process so you need to research if it is actually worth the money to grade a book. This site can be way off in the price of graded books because, if you look, very book in every grade is worth more graded than not and that is just not true. You have to take the time to look around various auction sites and ebay to see what graded copies actually realize and go from there. Guides often have you believe you are sitting on a goldmine when you may have not much more than a coal mine.

CGC apparently use PETG inner sleeves now. As mentioned, the previous 5-7 year lifespan they gave for reholdering was with respect to the microchamber paper they sandwiched in the book when encapsulating it. My understanding is that even if that paper is "spent" in that time it is inert and will not cause any damage to the book. Regardless of whether or not the inner well is Mylar or PETG film it is archival and should have a life span that well exceeds yours. So there is no need to reholder unless you are concerned about replacing the microchamber paper.

In theory, you can get any book you want graded. In practice though it really depends on what your ultimate goal for this book is and what the grade is. I would suggested checking out what people have been getting for this book in various grades and go from there. If the realized values people are getting more than cover the cost of getting the book graded then you may wish to get it graded.

Brazilian comic books values

I would guess that all prices are based upon two things:

1) Realized values. These would more than likely largely come from eBay and other public auction online sites. Perhaps some larger retailers.

2) Algorithms. There are many prices, especially graded, that have an algorithm applied to them and it is not actually based on a realized price.

Since this is a US based site US based collecting philosophies would be applied to all pricing where grade is the primary determinant of value. Of course, rarity, demand, and other factors come into play, but condition will still trump all those factors. Meaning a nicer condition book will ALWAYS bring more value.

You should also keep in mind that guides are not bibles they are only supposed to put you in the ballpark when trying to value a book. Ultimately, the fundamental determinant of value is you. How much are you willing to pay for a book? No matter what a price in a guide is I have paid more and less for books and there have been many reasons why I did so.

Dunkirk

I thought the point was to give an idea of what it was supposed to be like in those days? In that respect does it really matter whose POV was used? This was largely about the effort to get the men off the beaches and it was great that they showed that there was a huge civilian representation in the effort to save the soldiers. I felt that the film must have been fairly accurate as to generally what went on. Yes, they could have done more to show that there were more than British there, they could have given more props to the French who fought like hell to give others a chance to escape. They could have shown that, yes, a large number of French were rescued and not left to die or be captured. In general though they did a decent job of representing the chaos and fear that the men felt and the utter desperation. Keep in mind that, in the end it was pure chance that they got a chance to save the forces at Dunkirk. First the German decision to let the infantry come up and then the weather really are the only reason that these men even were saved from utter and total elimination.

You could try Heritage and MAYBE ComicLink and Comic Connect. I don't know if GoCollect has any data (they pull from eBay graded sales) and if you can access it without membership.

Missing as in not listed in the guide? If so, there is a section on this forum that you can list books that are missing. There are rules how to post them, so make sure you read the rules first. If you have done this and the posts have not been taken care of, I would assume that they have nobody working on entering missing issues, etc.

There are thousands of books in the guide and it is completely impossible to stay "up-to-date" with all of them. It would have to be a big staff working 24/7 and they would have to be very well connected to get the best survey of pricing of various books from the different regions of the US and beyond. My guess is they have few people that mostly just monitor a few online sources and they make the changes they can when they can.

Remember this is a guide and not a pricing bible. What is enter here are just snapshots in time and can never substitute your own research and awareness of realized prices.

All that being said the quality of operations for CPG have dropped over the years ... at least going by complaints here and observed history.

Possibly they're of no interest to yourself, but I found them to be very helpful. Don't understand why a paying member can't ask why a service is virtually dropped, without being told that it's not meant to be one of the functions of this site?

I only come to the forums. I tried the cataloguing features but it wasn't for me. Honestly? I don't know why anyone would continue to use the site when there are other options out there that are cheaper. Should you be upset yes. Services have slipped. However, it still holds true that no matter what CPG does they will never be able to keep up with the changing market prices so the best they can do is just keep plugging away. People need to realize that no matter what guide they use the values are only a snapshot in time so for whatever reason they are using A guide they have to understand that they are going to have to do at least some footwork to figure out the current estimate values of their books. Values are a moving mark and can even move depending on where you are located in the world.

When getting books graded it really depends on what grade you honestly think they will get and whether or not the market shows that you would benefit from getting the books graded. For example, Wonder Woman 94 is a book that is pretty scarce above a 4.5 range, but is a bit more common issue in the run from 39-112 which can be hard to find. So if you think it is better than 4.5 you might consider grading because it COULD bring more than the cost of the grading back to you in profit. However, you will have to carefully assess the grade and then check to see if any of the auction sites that have realized prices, like eBay and Heritage, have any examples of graded sales. Alternatively site like GPA (which is CGC only) or GoCollect might have some number to the sales of that issue when graded.

Looking at the guide here you see that all books in all grades will bring you more money. Reality though is a very different game. You have to do your research to see if the cost of getting books graded is actually worth it in the end.

With "uncertified" signatures you can get a wide range in value. Generally people pay more for signed books but if they are not certified how much more will range from a few dollars to tens of dollars. If your end goal is to sell the book you could get the signature certified through CBCS's service that authenticates signatures. Of course knowing what the signature may bring is kind oif key in deciding if the expense is worth it. Try looking on eBay, Heritage, Comic Link, and other common online auction houses and trackers such as gocollect or GPA

I don't believe that you can upload photos to the site any more. However, if you use a hosting site for your images currently you click the add reply button and it pops you into a different screen that has a menu button that you click on then you enter the url to the image and that will put the image into the post. You can also type it if you wish but I don't remember the format to do that at this time and I don't recall is it is shown in the the process I explained above.
