I hope this does not sound like me complaining....I'm not complaining. There is so much Spec now days on Youtube and other places...A lot of spec comes from newer books and apps....I'm guessing big money has been spent on these books that are deemed worthy by the spec market and creates large number of searches on CPG so one must take notice. All I wanted to say is where will these modern SPEC books be in 15 years? Some will still be cool, but most will be in someone's collection and many might have overpaid due to the SPEC. I remember the 90's like some of you and when the market crashed and bunches of collectors got stuck with worthless books. When the 90's market crashed many books held their price like marvel Silver age. I am kind of thinking that this SPEC market is like the DOTCOM bubble and when it pops the big stocks will remain like Apple or Amazon...Another analogy that many people might disagree with is the spec market is High risk and High reward, where let's say Marvel Silver age is a much safer bet 'Long Term' but less growth.
Investment strategy can have a healthy mix of High risk stocks, low risk stocks, bonds....etc....
-Can or Should CPG add or save a spot for a Silver age books or some newer in the CPG Watchlist?
-Should CPG stand behind its CPG Watchlist and review its Performance 1 year later? What could be Learned?
-What does the CPG Watchlist Mean? Is it a SPEC Watchlist Today, with expected returns over time....Or is it just recording how many clicks and searches? If its meant to be investment advice then I believe we need to measure the performance of the books and those who advise it...Meaning CPG please show us something like "here's our picks and here's our results over time"....I think that would be cool.

3rd party graders-
CGC costs the most takes months and months...but if you sell the books CGC gets you the most money most of the time. Other 3rd party graders are out there like CGCS and a new one called EGC or something like that...PGX is one I personally stay away from.
Storage-If your books are raw you can get bags and boards and put them into a box.
Bags/Boards-many different types of bags and boards...the higher the quality the higher the cost, just be sure to get the right size of boards and bags so they fix your comics properly. You can buy all this stuff online or try your local comic shop.
Boxes-Again lots of choices here...Cardboard or plastic....BCW or Hotflips might get you started...If you watch some youtube videos on comics you can even get a discount code for these two for 10 percent off if you find the right one....regie collects, comics with bueller, economics and comics, Jernos comics are just a few on youtube.
Another thing to consider on the 3rd party grading besides leadtime and cost/quality/resale value would be the value of the book, so just take some time to figure out the cost of getting the book graded vs worth...make sure it right for you....Also consider getting the book "pressed" it is an additional service that most of these grading companies offer for a cost but you can also find other Pressers who "should" send your books right to your grading service of choice after they press it...Pressing involves cleaning the book and pressing it flat..It does not fix color breaking creases and much other stuff. JC Penny Reprints

Hello Peeps,
Hey, I just came across a cool video on youtube letting viewers know about the JC Penny reprints. In the video Drew explains that these are really hard books to tell from the 1st prints. While many can be determined by the front cover some require the back cover pics as the only way to identify them, besides looking at page 1 or paper quality and smell which is not normally shown on Ebay....So beware my friends. I do see this site DOES list the one reprint I was looking at but it does not show the back cover.....Is it possible to add the back cover pics for these books and a possible addition of info on the details tab? I just wonder how many people got burnt on this and wondering how many are being sold on EBAY now as "BUY IT NOW". An example is Avengers 88 where you can't really tell the difference by looking at the front cover but the back cover will show you. For reference I've included the Youtube video which I will found helpful, hope you do too...

Thanks again for taking the time to reply...This might be a larger issue that the higher up's have to weigh on...Maybe they did sometime ago or will again in the future. Looking at different price guides, CGC chat, google searches etc....Whitman books can be very collectible...In the case of Star Wars 2 Whitman you can see the price difference between Whitman with a barcode and without. It was not long ago that this Comicspriceguide.com did not list newstand vs direct....now I see some Canadian and Aussie price variants...Is this just another string that if pulled on unravels the sweater? Could be, but it would be nice to record what books you have in your collection. Going back to Star Wars 2 I also see that Whitman with a blank UPC box issue is not listed and also the issue that has the words "reprint"...so this could be a big job if they want to pursue this. Years to look for are 1977-1979 I believe but could be wrong...Even more confusing is DC also has these. If i'm wrong on anything its ok and no need to point it out as I'll take your word for it...thanks again. |

I just wanted to say thank you for all the hard work you guys do. And a big thank you for all the help and friendly neighborhood approach to explaining when discussing topics. Also thanks for the help offered by other members as well...It's nice to see civility reign in times like these. I'll try to follow up on my end to follow the process and over time I should be able to help out a little once I find some time...great discussion. Hello,
Not sure if its always been this way or not but noticed that on 11-1 through 11-3 there were value update notification for my collection...which is good thx. What I'm seeing though is the value update is showing RAW book prices not my slab price under my value gain. When I click on the actual book I get the right price...So the question is should the value update give me updates for actual books I own or default to raw books prices that I don't own? Again I really like the Value update function and thanks for taking the time to consider the question. |

I also noticed that on 11/15 there was another value update for New mutants 98 and it again listed the RAW price in the update not my slabbed price. But when I look at mycollection I do see the right price for the slabbed book and I do have the box checked as well. thanks |

I just went to CGC census and they have two versions listed....the normal one and the "FOIL" one...So like I mentioned before I have two unopened Deluxe Vinyl box sets and I'll pull one out and take a pic and attach it here in a few minutes....peace out. |
