 The Broadway MAYHEM of 1974
1st Appearance "DISCUS" (Tim Stuart)
Standing in the debris that is the Gem Theatre, Luke Cage and D.W. assess the damage. Damage caused by the battle between Luke Cage, Power Man and a villainous Power Man, who wanted to fight for his name. D.W. says he will have to close the theatre for repairs so he might as well take a vacation. Luke tells D.W. about his Defenders experience and about a “dear Luke” letter from Claire. The kiss-off letter doesn’t make any sense because Luke and Doc Burstein are the only two men who really care about Claire. Luke is determined to take a bus to LA to see Claire, even if he has to borrow money for the bus fare.

A mysterious white haired gentleman is secretly watching Luke and D.W. Luke enters his office still deep in thought about the woman he loves and why she would leave, when he’s hit with a blast. Blasts and razor sharp discs keep coming from his office door so Luke makes a new “door” but busting through a wall. Once inside his office he finds Stiletto and another costumed guy named Discus. The two men are determined to take Luke back to prison. A major fight ensues that involves slams, punches and knocking Luke through a window.

Quote of the book: “In case you hadn’t guessed fruit boots, I’m the brawn behind this combo”

Power Man is stunned and trying to recover when Stiletto and Discus come after him again. They knock Luke off the roof on a New York City cabbie who doesn’t even stop. The mysterious man is still watching and thinking about the legal implications of these two men beating up Luke Cage. The unintentional taxi ride gives Luke the ability to recover before the next attack. This time Luke is able to knock out the two men but he’s reluctant to turn them in because they could turn him in to the police.

Finally the mysterious man in the shadows makes himself known, he is Tyler Stuart the former warden of Seagate prison. The two men who have been relentlessly attacking Luke are his sons.

Luke goes to the bus terminal to take the hard journey to see his love, Claire Temple. But he won’t be alone, D.W.’s vacation involves going to LA with Luke.
