I feel horrible that i can't remember the name of our fine English admin who so fondly posted and compared collections in this topic on the old forums. I've just been away too long.

Here in the C.C. we had running tallies of total collections and even publisher/title break downs.

I even remember a thread for the batman whitman covers.

I truly hope to see it grow to and beyond what it once was.

*edit: I remember now it was Earl Davis who put in those great efforts and compiled those lists of titles and totals and so forth*

Oh and.....

GHOSTS 1971-1982 | VOLUME 1 | DC

Total Value : $785.64
Issue Count : 68

Still need almost half of these.

Disney wants ALL the Dark Horse Star Wars books destroyed

WHAT WHAT WHAT???? For SHAME disney! I love my DH SW books. and yeah these are tricky to complete. just when you think you're closing in you find out there's an action figure reprint or variant cover with old marvel SW inside DH covers!!

(side note SS, I jumped the river!!!! I'm in OH too now!! Kinda wish my dad didn't buy me that Michigan hoodie for Christmas!)

Super lame disney. I can understand maybe buying up the publishing rights to keep them from being printed, but to destroy them, that's just evil!

I can't image the "New Adventures Of Jango Fett" sitting in the disney vault next to Aladin part 12: the many feathers of iago.

"Raw" Prices vs. "Graded" Prices

+1
This is the reason why I very rarely buy slabs at all. I'm all for finding a great buy at a show or convention but I always worry that I'll find some defect after the fact.

As to price differences these days our smart phones are rarley out of reach especially when we're out and about so, a quick google search at a dealers table can give you a good idea whats a fair price or whether you're being gouged or not price wise.

Excalibur was never really my go to title, but every time I read an ish or two I always found my self wanting to know what happens next. Best of luck on completing the run.

What happened to the old forums?

expander
expander
The old forums were a bit quirky. Always having to choose subject line characters carefully so as not to confuse the software, and searching the forums for a specific thread was an exercise in futility at times. As a result a lot of topics would be doubled up in two or three threads with different names but the discussions would run practically parallel. I love our comic community, but it was a bit of a turn off to try and find a discussion that you participated in but you couldn't remember what it was called. Still, I'm looking forward to being a part of these new boards as they grow.

"Event" books

expander

My view on this was that, as each story or plot-line came to be they would name it on the covers to differentiate beginnings and endings of said "events" or story arcs giving new readers an arbitrary "starting -off point" to jump into comic reading.

Then having noticed that clear starts and stops to story lines sold better it quickly de-volved into a gimmick whereby they could boost sales by hyping aforementioned "events" thus creating the letdown experienced by readers who bought/read them.

Not to mention change-ups and reinventions brought on by creator/bullpen line-up changes. I'm not saying DC never did it but marvel was/is pretty infamous for switching staff sometimes mid-story for many reasons. Firings, financial reasons, creative differences, lawsuits and I'm sure many more reasons.

Crossovers Anyone?

I dabble in crossovers not exclusively but, i do like to read all iterations of my favorite characters.

I am also VERY interested in this guide you mentioned. When it's completed I'd like a copy for sure.

I like anything aliens or predator so when superman or batman or vampirella take them on my curiosity just tingles like Spidey's spider sense. my latest pick up was the predator/archie book it seems so wrong but I had to bite.

also like unusual team ups as well.

GREAT TOPIC!!

Sometimes it's hard to find good info when you're first starting out in the hobby.

I had a rough time myself, when I first found this site I knew very little about the actual collecting side of the hobby.

I was searching for a price guide just to find the values to post on my ebay auctions.

I had no idea just how common so many books actually were, I was asking for $3-10 for dollar bin fodder and wondering why i wasn't moving books.

It wasn't until I found the forums and started conversing with my fellow "boarders" that i realized the error of my ways.

As with the old forums, there are always a few passers by to the forums who post outside of the proper topics/threads and try to unload that old attic full of 90's xmen and nfl super pro, and every other image book from the early 90's for about 200% of guide.

I've found it's best just to take it with a grain of salt, smile and nod, and try to patiently guide them along. smile

Rebirth 2016

I've picked up a few of these the ones I've read aren't too bad.

I was a little concerned about the direction I think they're trying to go with the "new" characters that are being thrown in @ the end of the issues.

As far as variants go there are already four or five covers to some of the DCU:Rebirth one shots out there. And it looks like DC learned nothing from the new 52 madness.

It is nice to have a definite ending point for the completionists out there.

I have been pursuing the Trade (TPB) versus "floppy" as Ox so eloquently stated myself and have found it to be an appealing way to collect. It's a great way to get more "story-for-your-buck", my only caveat to the trades is that I notice that some don't include every issue and it becomes a "best of after issue #20 ,30, or 40.

(I know this is a DC thread but Deadpool Classic is an example of including extras such as NM#98 and a cover gallery and so on) I'm just saying it's not a bad example to follow

It's hard believe it's been almost ten years for me on this site! (joined 7-14-06!) It's been a wild ride fun and frustrating and even sad at times. I've been using this site and it's former detached forum site for a long while. So I got curious today wondering how many other cpg members are at the TEN year+ mark?

Some I know others I barely converse with, I just want to thank all of you who post here daily (I know you could go anywhere else on the web) you make it worth the time to check in even if i can't reply and just get enough time to read a few posts here and there.

THANK YOU ALL!

Here's to TEN MORE!

A Question to the cpg staff and dev. team

expander
expander
As a ten year member I love this site! I was hugely into the forums before they crashed and I always had a few things to say or add. One thing that has bugged me pretty much since the beginning was the message system on the "guide side."

In the old days I would simply do all my messaging on the forums and kill time by scrolling through my messages line by line on the "guide side" when I was bored.

SOOOoooo.......... My Question is: Are there any updates or changes in the works for the current shared messages system?

My peeve right now is that if a member sees a comic on my want list in their collection while they are looking at the issue page and see my name and message me I get something like this:

"hey i have this book, interested?"

Now I've been curious on a few occasions and just message back :
What book? what condition? what price? pictures? shipping?

It's become a dreaded thing for me to view my messages or conduct business with fellow members. Reading through the spam to get to the legit deals offers and replys.

Not sure if I'm the only one who feels this way or if I'm just one of many voices here but, I'm curious to know if there's anything going on as far as a form message for selling (one that shows the title, volume, issue #,condition and maybe even terms of sale.)

I have a few ideas for this so rather than drone on further (as I have already) I'll post and await a response. thanks, Tim

Where have all the peoples gone...

Before the crash I was up to almost 3,000 posts (I think?) a dainty number compared to some of my more prolific forum brethren.
I then changed jobs, houses, and priorities. A few times.

Before I moved I had no access to an lcs, however since moving to Ohio I now have two! In the smaller (and better IMHO ) of the two, the owner pulled out his iphone and introduced me to the clz app.

So I will admit to downloading it, using it, and liking it but it's not without flaws one of which being the key factor that brought me to this very site more than 10 years ago via a yahoo search.....The actual price guide. sure you can add values to your collection in the app but did marvel dump a movie with an obscure cameo this week that bumps the value through the roof? idk it's hard to tell. but i seem to be struggling with typing this out on my tablet so for now i close and must recharge anyhow. thanks to all who take the time to endure my posts i have abandoned sentence structure and punctuation in lieu of time and battery.

I still love the site for tracking my collection and (alphabetizing)

I used to make cpg my morning wake up site check in to see what went on overnight. Since moving and starting my own business it kinda faded to the background, then after the forum crash I just logged into the guide to add the occasional new issues. I stopped even trying to scan covers in. I feel bad for neglecting the community as it were but i simply haven't felt like it is what it used to be.

so the point of this thread was to share what you were doing while up at 3:45 A.M. I'm listening to youtube and obviously posting on the forums. also having a peanut butter, banana, and marshmallow cream sandwich (so good.)

Makes me ponder the correlation from mcu cameos, and one shot current titles to see if the secondary market gets a bump to gauge the direction of current books and characters.
