The title of that series is just Marvel Comics Presents. Typically, the character named on the front is the main featured character of that particular issue. You can find it here: https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/marvel-comics-presents/73/viuvb |

What I'm seeing on eBay shows the main cover selling in the $20-30 range over the past couple of days. It's frequently $25 and up if you take into account the shipping being charged.
When I look back in time a couple of weeks, it was selling for $10-15. That's a big jump in a few days. Did this get optioned by a studio? |

"Pushing data to variants" button? I haven't seen that button. Where is it? If it exists that would make my life so much easier when adding creator data. |

Weird, I'm not seeing it, but I wish I could. I've never been able to add UPC information either, which I'd love to. And if I could, having a "push" function for that would also be great. Ben, are you Level 10 with special rank and privilege? I'm a lowly Level 9 grunt.
To be even more ambitious with UPC management in an effort to require even less issue by issue data entry:
- The first 6 digits are the publisher code, so that could conceivably be entered to auto-populated on every issue once a title is created under a publisher. Technically the very first number is a product type designator, but should be the same for every issue of a title.
- The second six digits are the title code which is generated by the publisher. This too could also be auto-populated when a new title is created. Technically the final number is merely a check-sum number, but for all intents it should always be the same for every issue of a title.
- If the first 12 digits are entered when an administrator creates a title, which then is automagically pushed to any issue created for that title, the only info needed after that would be the 5 digits specific to that issue/cover/printing.
Warning: Now I become Debbie-Downer from a coding/development standpoint... Of course, this only works for modern books printed after Diamond standardized barcodes in 2008 to use the UPC-A +5 supplemental format (the modern comic book barcode we all know and love!). Before that it was a wild-west of barcodes going back to when Marvel and DC started using UPCs for newsstand editions in the late 70's. From the late 70's until 2008 there was a mix of UPC w/10 digits, UPC w/11 digits (10 digits + the check sum), UPC-A (10 digits + the check sum and the product type), and variations of the UPC with either +2 or +3 supplementals which could indicate either issue number or commonly the publication month.
Add to that... Even once DC and Marvel started using UPCs for direct editions, many times they would be a different UPC in number and/of format than the newsstand edition.
Oh, and graphic novels and trades will sometimes use the EAN-13 +5 standard. The EAN standard is a 13 digit code more popular in Europe and Asia, though it is becoming much more common in North America as products become much more global in nature.

That's definitely not there for me. Since you are an admin that tells me it's an admin only function. I still agree that would also be a nice tool for UPCs.
I have yet to receive the call up to the big dance so I will continue to dream of such power. |

Superman/Batman Annual #4
solarno
|
That's an odd one as far as the Batman Beyond appearance, as it is both very incorrect, and correct from a certain point of view. The first comic book appearance of Batman Beyond was in 1999, but that version was never really considered part of the main DCU continuity. The character was temporarily considered part of the Earth-12 alternate reality DCU. Supes/Bat Annual #4 is the first appearance of Batman Beyond in the main DCU continuity. From what I can find, no matter the version his name is Terry McGinnis. At the end of the day I suppose naming a first appearance is a matter of semantics and which version of Batman Beyond you wish to reference.
As for the increased value? The book does seem to be recently selling between $30 and $60, with graded versions going between $50 and $150. I'm not sure of the Artgerm cover has anything to do with it. That would have been one of his earlier DC covers. |

I should have ended with a sarc tag on that as it would be negative. Hahaha! It just happens that at the shop I work at we had so many folks in asking for both Canto 1 and Marvel Presents 6 this past week, almost all who are known speculator/investors in the area. The best one was the guy who came in looking for both for his cousin who lives in a small town in northern California. The store GM told me later that he pops in every few months and is always looking for these types of books for various relatives in any of a myriad small towns across the western US. |

For a long time the newsstand and direct editions had been considered one and the same as the only difference is the newstand version will have a barcode and the direct version will have some sort of art, logo, or ad in its place. But in recent years there has been a growing interest by collectors for specific versions. Recently CPG has started selectively adding newstand/direct variants for certain titles as time permits. This is a massive undertaking so you'll occasionally see a huge batch show up in the "new comics" listings. I'm not sure how they are prioritizing which titles get done, but in time most major titles will be addressed. |

I do not have this variant in hand but I believe the issue number is incorrect. I'm pretty sure it should read #1 like the other variants. The UPC code would indicate this as well. https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/marvels-epilogue/150-RI-E/pkwthxw

I've also observed a slight uptick in the number of customers asking specifically for direct or newsstand editions of books over the past few months at the LCS I work at. There's definitely an interest out there, but it's hard to tell if those customers are searching for perceived value or just general interest. We're not pricing issues differently at this point, but I wouldn't be surprised if the owner did eventually, at least for key books. The challenge though comes with knowing which version of a specific issue is actually more valuable.
Based on that, other than comparing condition it would be difficult to value newstand editions higher than direct just due to the quantity out in the wild. By the mid-80's though is where I can see a logical argument for newsstand editions being considered more valuable for an equivalent condition book.
