Member's ranks question

And, do we get credit for submitting stuff that no one wants to verify, either? Or does the credit come only after validation?

I submitted a "bunch:" of info on House of Mystery issues from the Adams/Wrightson years. Some of it was validated, the story summaries are just sitting out there, so does that mean I don't get "Credit" until someone else reads the issues and agrees with my synopses? In that kind of situation, I'd be better off just submitting the writing, drawing, inking, colorist credits and skipping the story summaries. There are about 4 stories in each of those issues.

There's a lot of info out there for members to collect, but some of it is "Never" going to be collected because "We're" not tasked with both submissions and validations. We're all doing the submissions, most likely, but the validations are pretty important for the rewards system in place.

IMO, the best way for CPG to "solve" this is to require user photos for every item for sale. This would be best via a photo function added to the CPG app, since smartphones would give the user (via the app) direct access to the camera. Uploading photos from a desktop or laptop computer just puts more steps in the process.

This may not fully alleviate the problem, but it would be a start.

The next step could be to allow sellers to get a rating from the community. Attest to the completeness of the book, submit good photos of the cover and back cover, get it rated "third party, but not in-person" and then let that 3rd party grading be a very important part of the member ranking system. Let buyers complain about those ratings on the back end, let sellers choose not to accept ratings, but then not be able to list the book, either. Possibly let sellers request a 3rd party grader of a certain member ranking or higher, too.

All this said: it is a lot of work to develop all of that for CPG, and if it didn't increase the number of subscribers, there'd be little in it for CPG.

Naming the Comic Book Ages

To what end would the "Ages" help with finding or cataloguing? The Ages don't begin end "Definitively", imo. So "Copper Age" and "Superman" needs a +/-3 years,

I don't expect users to get booked graded and slabbed by CGC either. I was just riffing on an idea that a 3rd party opinion based on photos of the book in question could be made.

"Make Me an Offer" seems to me to be just a "starting point," so I would say you are bidding.

I have to say, I didn't "see" New Teen Titans as a horror comic when I was reading it in the early 1980's, but Titans makes a great case for that. I hate the theme music, though. And it is in the credits too, so when binge watching, you get like 9 minutes of buuut-dut-duttah-dah-dutt-dut-duddah-dah repeated over and over and... you the picture.

Display Case?

I clicked the "Display Case" link in my user profile (upper corner modal of non-forum pages) and I get an error. Never set anything up here, is there something I need, like my own cover scans, to make a display case?

Editing quantity of an issue you own

No, if you own 3 copies of something then "my collection" will show 3 lines for 3 issues. Each issue could have separate grades and details (notes, like "autographed") There's a red "X" next to each line...

These were added years ago. Not sure if that makes a difference...if something has changed in the system since I added them?

Yeah, that could be a pertinent clue. Someone like RonBatman will probably need to address whether quantities were once handled that way.

I see what you mean about the colors on the cover. It particularly looks as though they ran the black plate before the magenta (at the least), leading to obvious hue changes between the black in different areas. (Some places it's a "blue-black" others it is a "ruddy-black", others it is just "black".)

Is there a photo of the publishing info from inside the cover? I would avoid the artwork "page ones" from the 3 comic stories, because those might reference the original materials and not this reprint compendium?

This also appears to be printed in Quebec, which makes it "Canada" and not "France" ?

Is that a requirement to merely show your eBay offerings?

Because you can provide your eBay profile to cpg to show your auctions.

Over the last few months, we've been moving our images from an outside provider to our servers. The app pulled from the outside servers. We are in the process of moving all images, website and app to our servers. Since we have 1.1 million books this takes time and bandwidth. If we tried to move all the images in a week, the rest of the site would basically stop functioning. It's a ridiculous amount of data. Please use the website for faster downloads until we can move everything over.

Have you checked into any of Cloudflare's services to help with the images? I believe that they have some advanced CDN (Content Delivery Network) features that might help with this problem?

There's not much there on our local ABC affiliate, I agree.

Abbott Elementary has been funny, I'm not sure that's consistent.

Blackish really hits once in a great while. When it's not hitting, though, I'm bored.

Funny thing: Disney is selling whole shows to NBC and CBS at the same time. Young Sheldon and Big Bang Theory are ABCtv productions they sell to CBS, e.g.

This may just be me, but I would NEVER have Rob Liefeld sign a Deadpool comic as his auto looks like crap. It literally looks like a scribbled check mark.

Liefeld's signature looks like crap?! At least he is consistent, then.

Was in a store in Carbondale, IL this week where the wall of books had some with post-it notes on the outside of their hard cases.

Post-it note put up by prior manager said something to the effect "Remember, kids: Rob Liefeld is a millionaire. No reason you cannot aspire to draw comics someday, even if you are terrible."

Thor Love and Thunder

I wouldn't give Taika Waititi another chance at a Marvel movie.

As much fun as Ragnarok was, his lack of any level of "longtime fan respect" makes him too willing to just drop garbage on stuff we love.

Sometimes, we love stuff too much, and he can poke at that and I would be okay with it, but coming at Thor with a total lack of interest seemed pretty evident to me.

And, I would also say that I am not deadset against what they may have written earlier in the planning stages of Love and Thunder. A look at the mindset of a being as powerful as Thor to love someone weaker, even dying. And, a look at the mentality of someone facing death due to infirmity to be extremely willing to do almost anything to keep on living/existing.

But, if they thought of all that, then what happened was they copped out and went all jokey because it was "too hard" to try at that?
