Gwenom Is Coming

I see in the latest Marvel Previews that Spider-Gwen # 26 is being solicited with the title Gwenom part 2. So it definitely looks like number 25 is the first appearance of Gwenom. I guess I missed the earlier Marvel Preview that would show it for sure.

Just saw that our site here has moved the price to $60 for this book, but while I was looking at the Lyria Exchange which follows bids on eBay, someone bought this book for $180 at a 9.8.

CGC headquarters is in Florida where hurricane Irma is moving through. Hopefully they have a secure place for all their books and slabs, but I bet there are worried owners of books that have been sent there right now throughout the United States.

Try Airboy by James Robinson, the writer and Greg Hinkle, the artist. Just came out in a deluxe hardcover. They take a comic book character that is in the public domain and really make a warped story out of it.

Hydra and Red Skull banned at Rose City Convention

I just read on the Bleeding Cool site that the Rose City Comic convention has banned anything related to Nazis which would include Hydra and the Red Skull. This is mainly geared to the cosplayers dressing up like these people, but how far will it go? Will they start banning comics with Nazis on the cover and Hydra on the cover? Will Oliver Hardy have to shave his mustache? The same with Charlie Chaplin?

Dunkirk

There was a British film released about three months before the Dunkirk movie that dealt with the publicity machine of the British Ministry trying to make a positive of the Dunkirk retreat. This film was called "Their Finest." It was a small budget affair and did not do that well in the United States, though it was an excellent film. In this movie, it showed that the British had interred the Italian population of Britain in internment camps like the US did the Japanese during World War II.

Kingsmen: The Golden Circle

The first Kingsmen movie walked the fine line between sophistication, style and the absurb. The sequel just clunks along trying to imitate the first movie. One clue there might be a problem is Channing Tatum is in this movie. That is one actor that never has to worry about being called sophisticated.
Another major problem is this movie leaves the comfort of England and Europe to go to America. And almost the entire cast from the original is gone, supplanted by an almost entirely American cast. Not only that, but an American cast that dwells in the state of Kentucky which is almost a complete 180 degree turn from England.
Then you have Elton John running around loose in this movie for who knows why. Maybe Matthew Vaughn, the director, just wanted backstage passes to his future concerts. And this is the old Elton John trying to reprise the young Elton John and his wild costumes. Nothing in this movie really makes sense.
Then you also have Halle Berry in this movie. Her role is very questionable, also. The one good thing about Channing Tatum being in this movie is that he is not in it very long. Let's just say he gets bored and goes to sleep and wakes up at the end of the movie which will probably be what most of the audience does. The only difference is that Tatum will have gotten paid.
Julianne Moore is also in this movie as the main villain and she treats her role as a villain might in the 1960's Batman television series. She is gleefully happy throughout her appearances and adds to the movie's... why?
I loved the first movie, but I absolutely do not like this one.

Did Seth MacFarlane pull a fast one?

I just got through watching Seth MacFarlane's new comedy series "The Orville." That is because I read somewhere a comment that said "The Orville" is more like Star Trek than the new Star Trek series. I have not seen the new series of Star Trek, but I do agree that "The Orville" is very much like a regular show of Star Trek.
Did McFarland want to do a serious role in the new Star Trek series, but was turned down, and then opted to get complete control of a comedy series that turned out to be "The Orville?" And by having complete control the network did not have time to view it and it was too late and they had to put it on the television as is?

Thor: Ragnarok

This movie is one of the best Marvel superhero movies made so far. I was not that enchanted with the first two Thor's and only consider them passable. "Thor Ragnarok," though slightly over 2 hours long, moves very swiftly. There is nothing boring about this movie. I would rank it up there with "Ant-Man."
I had read originally that this movie was fated to come in at 90 minutes long. The movie bosses had shortened it down as they had thought the comedy sequences would deter from the movie. However, they had placed all the comedy sequences in and ran it at a comic book convention and the audience was so pleased that they decided to leave all the comedy in the movie. I was apprehensive when I heard about this, but all the comedy sequences work and seem very natural.
Tessa Thompson who plays Valkyrie does a very good job and comes across reminding me of Michelle Rodriguez. I was a little worried about her casting as Valkyrie, as in the comic books she is a very Nordic blonde and Tessa Thompson is black, but with a British accent.
Even with all the comedy in this movie there is an inordinate amount of death. The clue might be that the main villain is Hela, the goddess of death. Many people die in this movie.
I highly recommend this movie.

Justice League

colbalt91
Well here it comes... The best DC movie made so far. Yes, I know people say "Wonder Woman" is, but there were scenes that dragged during the exposition. In the movie "Justice League," nothing drags. Without meaning to insult DC entertainment, this movie is as good as a Marvel superheroes movie. DC has finally gotten it right. Thank you Zack Snyder, the director.
And as people expected, Superman comes back from the dead. But this is a mightier Superman...a more confident Superman. The Flash, on the other hand, for this movie is a newbie. Relatively new at the superhero business. Apparently, he has been around, but secretly doing good deeds and not coming up against any adversaries. That is until he becomes part of the newly formed Justice League.
Gal Gadot is still stunning as Wonder Woman. She has many good scenes so the Wonder Woman fans will not be disappointed.
The one character that I thought might be a weakness for the movie, Cyborg, in no way hinders the film. He holds his own very well.
When the ending credits come on, do not leave the theater when you see the first sequence. There is a final sequence at the very end of the credits which I can see influencing the price of a certain comic book already. Word must have gotten out.
This is a very fun movie and everybody should enjoy it.
