The first Kingsmen movie walked the fine line between sophistication, style and the absurb. The sequel just clunks along trying to imitate the first movie. One clue there might be a problem is Channing Tatum is in this movie. That is one actor that never has to worry about being called sophisticated.
Another major problem is this movie leaves the comfort of England and Europe to go to America. And almost the entire cast from the original is gone, supplanted by an almost entirely American cast. Not only that, but an American cast that dwells in the state of Kentucky which is almost a complete 180 degree turn from England.
Then you have Elton John running around loose in this movie for who knows why. Maybe Matthew Vaughn, the director, just wanted backstage passes to his future concerts. And this is the old Elton John trying to reprise the young Elton John and his wild costumes. Nothing in this movie really makes sense.
Then you also have Halle Berry in this movie. Her role is very questionable, also. The one good thing about Channing Tatum being in this movie is that he is not in it very long. Let's just say he gets bored and goes to sleep and wakes up at the end of the movie which will probably be what most of the audience does. The only difference is that Tatum will have gotten paid.
Julianne Moore is also in this movie as the main villain and she treats her role as a villain might in the 1960's Batman television series. She is gleefully happy throughout her appearances and adds to the movie's... why?
I loved the first movie, but I absolutely do not like this one.
