I've had netflix for ages and don't plan on leaving any time soon, so I'm not much help in that area. That said, pretty sure there is an "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of those emails. Just tap that little guy and after a couple of weeks you should stop getting those pesky little beggings. |

I don't really have a problem with our forums. The things that are broken, I've never noticed. To me that means they aren't worth fixing. Others may have differing opinions, and that's fine too. Would it be nice if the forums were more active? Sure. But I feel that sort of thing goes in waves a bit. I personally tend to rotate through my hobbies. When I'm into one, I'm really, really into it. Then I'll move on to something else. But eventually I'll make my way back to the first one. I like being able to be part of a community. Each and every one of us users contributes to the site. Whether it be through adding and verifying data, asking and answering questions in the forums, or even just searching for books. |

Looks like Henchgirl from Scout Comics just got optioned by Freeform for a television show. Prices already seem to be on the rise a bit on the big auction site. https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/henchgirl/1/pjttmru edited by glorkar on 11/10/2020 |

Is there a way to list a bi-monthly publishing date? As an example, I've got Best of DC (Blue Ribbon Digest) #7. The indicia states it was published Sept./Oct. 1980. |

CGC Restoration

I feel that it's relative to the collector. Some people would rather have an original condition book, while others want one that looks great. Personally, I don't buy enough graded books to say which I would lean towards. A restored 8 vs a natural 8 will lose every time. A restored 8 vs a natural 5? The restored might get more interest.
Out of curiosity, what book are you thinking about getting restored? edited by glorkar on 11/12/2020 |

If the dirt is your major concern, CGC also offers pressing. From my understanding, it's basically dry-cleaning for comics (though a much, much more complicated process!) That might be the better option for you. https://www.cgccomics.com/ccs-pressing/
And from their FAQ: "CGC does not consider pressing to be restoration. Read more on the CGC website. CGC also does not consider dry cleaning to be restoration, which we automatically include in our pressing service when necessary. Dry cleaning’s main purpose is to remove soiling or unwanted substance or writing from a cover, particularly in the white areas. Dry cleaning does not remove tanning, stains, pen or marker, sun shadows or foxing. If we feel your book’s grade would benefit from a dry cleaning, we will automatically perform this during the press process." |

So I decided to buy some and see what they were like. I'm a little disappointed. My hope was that I'd be able to bag a book and slide it in. In most cases, this was a no go. The comic sits too loosely this way (unless it's a fairly thick book). It could easily slide out and, while the edges / spine are protected, the book is still susceptible to bending in the middle. For this reason, I still had to use a board on most of my books. That said, it does protect a little better from accidental damage (for example, pressure damage when taking the comic out of a box).
I'm not sorry I bought them, but I'm also glad I only got 10 of them. I'll use one on occasion for higher value books, but they definitely aren't worth it for the bulk of a collection. |

So I'm thinking about submitting some books to CGC to get graded. The tiers are based on value. Are these values the raw or graded values? |

That doesn't really answer my question. There's fair market raw and fair market graded. The book I'm looking at is valued at $200 raw / $700 graded. |

Thanks. That helps a lot.
I checked out the faq but didn't really see anything. And to be honest, this forum is kind of my go-to site for all things comics. I didn't even think to check their forums. I would have eventually looked there or emailed them if I came up empty here. |

Forgot I could see the recent price changes by clicking on the "price guide" menu at the top of the page. I can only see the first 20, but there's a western (Colt 45) and a sci-fi (Grand Slam). I've heard of Colt 45, but not the other one. Looks interesting though. |

Marvel VS DC!

Such a tough call. Growing up in the 80's and 90's I fell in love with the X-Men. So many characters that just seemed cool. I dropped out of the hobby for a couple of decades. Now I'm back in and I'm really enjoying DC, Batman and Detective Comics especially. Don't get me wrong, I've got a couple of Marvel titles that I'm following as well (Black Widow and Strange Academy). But looking at the X-Men books now, there's just something about the art and layout that doesn't appeal to me.
Ugh. If I had to pick one, right now, today, I'd have to go with DC for comics. |

CPG Criteria for adding Kickstarter comics?
glorkar
|
I saw a missing issue post for a Kickstarter comic and it got me thinking. What comics from Kickstarter are eligible to be added to the system?
Stake #1 (Stake #1 (Kickstarter) - Database & Missing Issue Discussion - ComicsPriceGuide.com Forums) looks like it will more than likely be approved. I had a similar post for Let's Play Volume 1 (Let's Play - Volume 1 - Database & Missing Issue Discussion - ComicsPriceGuide.com Forums) that seems like it won't.
From what I can tell, both comics are from small publishers that aren't currently in the system (W.i.N. Pictures vs Rocketship Entertainment). Neither of them are being offered for sale in the conventional style (can't go to your LCS to pick up a copy). I'm sure both had fairly low print runs (just going by the number of backers: Stake=265 / Let's Play 4,438).
I don't mind if the one I posted doesn't get listed, but it just got me wondering what the criteria was that the CPG staff use to determine if a Kickstarter comic is worthy of the database. |

Turns out Stake is actually published by Scout Comics. The versions on that Kickstarter seem to be exclusive variants. |

No recent sale of this one on eBay. There are two graded copies listed (both 2.0) but they are asking crazy money for them. $6,000 and $7,400. Or best of offer. I have a feeling that they are going to be sitting on there for a very long time at those prices. |

Hanahan Comics - Buying Experience With Them
glorkar
|
I made a few purchases from them on eBay. High quality books. Packed and shipped very well. Got them in less than a week. Decided I'd try buying directly from their website. The experience was... less than ideal. - I pre-ordered some books so I knew the order wouldn't ship until everything was in. A week goes by (after the longest release date) and my order showed "unfulfilled" so I shot them an email. No response. I wait another week and call them. No answer so I leave a voicemail. I waited another 3 days then emailed them again asking if I was still getting my order or if I had to charge my credit card back. Got an email almost right away stating they were just shipping orders from that week out that day. Funny how that happens, huh? Just got my books in hand 4 days short of a month from release date.
- I'll probably order from them again in the future (great variant selection, standard pricing) but now I know that it takes quite a while to get the order. My biggest complaint is the lack of communication. Missing the first email I could understand. Maybe it went to the spam folder. Not returning a phone call is harder to justify though. - I don't know. Am I being too unrealistic? Is waiting a month normal for orders from online stores? This is the first one I've bought from so I don't really have a frame of reference. |
