All I got from all this was that someone:

A) learened a new word and was determined to use it as often as possibleand that is: sociopath

B) has a monetary interest in the film Comic Book Villains

C) believes all comic collectors are sheisters.

Dear Mr. Passive-Aggressive:

A) Others were the triggered by my usage of the word. I used it in my first post, they kept bringing it up (quite defensively).
B) Good movie. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys the world of comic book collecting.
C) I don't appreciate the accusation. You are insidiously, and purposefully, misrepresenting my simple position that people shouldn't take advantage of other people.

I wouldn't feel the need to reply to all of these if what I was saying wasn't being misinterpreted, or misrepresented. Please don't post on this topic if all you are going to do is try to stir things up. Trolling isn't appreciated.

Dear Mr. Defensive Pretentious-wordsmith,

Lighten up. This is comics and comic collecting were talking about here. It's supposed to be fun.

What's so great about Nova?

Well, the Man Called Nova #1 is his 1st appearance, Richard Rider as Nova. Super powerful and part of the Nova Corps which I would say is Marvels version of the Green Lantern Corps (anyone can correct me or elaborate if needed). Nova is likely to appear in a future Guardians of the Galaxy film. The Nova Corps already have made a film appearance in the 1st Guardians movie.

Personally, I think the character is very cool. Check out more from the list nk below. Hope this washelpful.

Hi Everyone,

I need help confirming the 1st appearance of the DC character Major Force. I'm getting conflicting results between these 2 comics.

CAPTAIN ATOM ANNUAL #1 (1987)

CAPTAIN ATOM #12 (1987)

Can anyone confirm which one of these books is the 1st appearance?

Thank you!

Comic Book Eras

Respectfully, I'm not sure what purpose these names serve. I can't think of another artistic field that labels eras the way comics do. Film and music don't do this. They may refer to a "golden age" but it's not the same as comics naming all the eras. Why do we need to name the eras?

Actually, film kind of does. I just doesn't feel the need to ensure that every year is part of an era, like the Silent Era, the Studio Era or the New Hollywood era.

Hmmm..I suppose that's true, good point.

What purpose do "silverage" or "goldenage" etc. names serve? Is it just for casual conversations? They're not offensive by any means but I'm curious why we use them at all.

Overstreet appears to indicate that Annual 1 is the 1st appearance of Major Force. It states: intro Major Force and there's no notes regarding Captain Atom 12.

Signing: value or destruction?

genuine_article_comics

The only books I got signed are books of unimportance (with the exception of 1..new gods 1 signed by Jack Kirby). I'm in total agreement that signatures have a negative impact on the comic which is why the books that I have signed are of no importance.

Hello - I saw a post somewhere recently where people were scrambling to put together enough money to get as many books as possible signed by Stan Lee or whoever... Sometimes not even anyone who actually worked on that particular comic. What I'm wondering is... Other than for people who really want Stan to sign their 9.4 Strange Tales 110 (ouch!!), what is the appeal here? Doesn't having a name scrawled across a book destroy the value for the most part? Is this an investment, is what I'm asking, because it seems to me that it is not, and it's possible that the trend will die off, leaving people with books reduced several grades for 'autographs' .. And the rest of the world has one less Strange Tales 110 as an appealing option. (By the way, I get it if you love the artist and you are doing it for you... I got an X-Men 108 signed by Byrne as a kid and I'm ok with it because of the personal experience.)

Would you get a baseball player to sign a sheet of paper of a baseball card?
Really boils down to your choice. I like signed comics. Add creator's personal touch to finished work.

And this is truly the best answer. It's all about personal choice.

1st Appearances VS. Cameos: The Money Books

genuine_article_comics
genuine_article_comics
I believe there should be a consensus within the comic book collecting community of what the money book should be regarding 1st appearances and cameos.

I know this is very difficult to do but the discrepancies are huge in what books command big(ger) money.

Hulk 180 vs. Hulk 181
X-men 266 vs. x-men annual 14
Jimmy Olsen 134 vs Forever People 1

......on and on and on.

How and why do some books seem to get it right in terms of correct value placement and others seemingly get it totally wrong?

Your thoughts please.....

As an aside, my older Overstreet guides have 180 as more valuable than 181. I think this is evidence that people only wish to pay more for the first full issue of the character, even if it's not his true 'first' appearance.

Except that is not true in every case. See X-23 #1 Dell'Otto Variant, SPJO #134, etc.

And that's the crux of this thread. I've posted this topic before the crash and thought I'd put it back up. The logic seems to apply to some books but not all and I don't understand why. Case in point the books Oxbladder mentioned...and there are more examples.

Future State of the Comic Market: Gold/Silver Age

genuine_article_comics

Hi All,

I'd like to pose a couple of general questions regarding the comic book market.

Are we at the upper echelon of comic prices regarding Golden age and Silver age comics or is there still room to go higher?

Are golden age and silver age comics (for the long term) going to increase in value? What I mean is that; is the general trend for gold and silver age comics (over several decades) an upward trend?

I'm interested in what the community thinks about the long term values of gold and silver age comics. I know over short term time frames comics will fluctuate in value. I'm asking about the long term.

I understand no one can predict the future. I'm just curious as to what the community thinks regarding long term values of gold and silver age comics.

Thanks!

Thanks guys!

I agree with both of you. The more expensive the book the fewer buyers for sure.

I also believe general comic book values will continue to trend upwards over the long term. Comics are so hot right now that in the short term I believe values will eventually decline but long term they will trend up.

Thanks for your input!!

Hey Guys,

To all the back issue collectors out there. When searching for books for your collection do you have a preference of the American books over the UK books or vice versa?

Personally, I consider the American book the definitive version of all Marvel and DC comics and that's what I seek out for my collection.

Does anyone have a differing opinion?

Thanks!!!

The best scenario in my opinion is if you have a 3rd party graded book, get the artist to sign the case. The book remains "undamaged" but you have a signed collectible. I believe you can still get a case signature authenticated.

Do they ship to the UK? Can't seem to find if they do on their website.

Atomic Avenue is like ebay in that there are dealers selling comics. Dealers are from all over the world, including the UK. They will ship to you.

Undervalued/Under the Radar: Silver Age DC/Marvel

genuine_article_comics

Hi All,

Analyzing my usual sources for collecting comics:

- Comicspriceguide.com
- eBay
- Atomic Avenue
- Quality Comix
- Metropolis Comics
- Mycomicshop.com
- Mile High Comics
- Dave and Adams
- wwcomics.com
- Anthony's Comic book art
- Retro Rocket Comics
- www.sellmycomicbooks.com

I've concluded that silver age DC comics; specifically Green Lantern, Flash, Action Comics and Adventure Comics and silver age Marvel titles; Tales to Astonish, Tales of Suspense and Strange Tales appear to be completely undervalued and ripe for a price explosion. Of the titles mentioned I'm not talking about the high profile key books but rather the more minor key books.

I picked up many higher grade (Fine+ to VF) Green Lantern books (#23 - #49) for about $20 each including shipping. Also, a couple of Flash books (#122 - #140)mid grades for about the same price.

I feel these silver age key books should be commanding much higher prices. Does anyone agree or disagree or have any insights?

Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

Are all DC silverage 1st appearances significant?

Showcase 4 is obvious as the Flash was virtually a new character...same can be said for Showcase 22 1 St GL.

What about others like Batman 151 1st silverage Penguin or Batman 171 1st silverage Riddler or Green Lantern 16 1st silverage Star Sapphire? Are any of these characters significantly different than there goldenage versions?

I am in total agreement with everyone's sentiment here. The blame lies at the feet of the ones that should have been communicating to their users of what the hell was going on immediately following the crash. There was complete silence. Any momentum this site had before the crash rapidly disapated every day nothing was communicated. They will never get that back, never.
