Graded 9.8 vs 9.6 Do you think the market?

I think people see a huge difference from a NM/M and a NM+. Just the description of what they are, alone, makes a 9.8 far more desirable: 9.8 - A nearly perfect collectible with negligible handling or manufacturing defects. 9.6 - A very well-preserved collectible with several minor manufacturing or handling defects.
Basically no defects v small defects.
I also think it's ridiculous, btw, but I don't think it's going anywhere.
I think CGC needs to remove the word "Several" from the 9.6 scale lol. I have some 9.6 books that look perfect without a defect to be seen. I wasn't the one who sent them in so there is no telling on why they are a 9.6 but when held up to a 9.8 there is no obvious difference in them, defiantly not a double the price difference lol. What is a 9.6 to CGC one day can be a 9.8 another day. Because the grading can be subjective I think the jump in price between a 9.6 to a 9.8 is just crazy. But don't get me wrong I love to see that 9.8 in the top left corner lol. edited by TheOldCollector on 3/24/2021 |

Sure the ones that have paid the higher prices for their copies are not going to want to sell them for less but there are a ton of these still being graded. There have been 2,000 copies added to CGC in the last 12 months alone and that number is going to keep going up very quickly due to these prices. |

Doesn't make sense. Disney will go after small businesses or schools for showing their movies, https://www.sacbee.com/news/california/article239914608.html, but they won't go after sellers that counterfeit their books.
I totally agree. You think this would be stopped. |

I miss news print paper, the smell when I open one of these books takes me back to my childhood. Oh and I'm more marvel then DC, I think what sold me growing up was the selection.
I wish they would bring back news print. Today's comics always feel and look a bit awkward to me. I still read and collect them but I would much rather it go back to the ways of the old lol. |

I think the answer you're going to get from most people is this website isn't really set up for selling. It still happens on here but not as much as I would like or maybe I've just dealt with the wrong sellers. I have placed offers and never gotten a response on the few items I have tried to buy on here. I recently just purchased my first item on here and it already has me a bit worried. I'll let you know how it goes lol. edited by TheOldCollector on 3/27/2021 |

Dynamic had them listed on their site for $120. The comic is listed here for around $11 for a 9.8. Signatures add values when it is graded as a signature series with CGC or CBCS but for raws with signature I am not sure due I avoid them like the plague lol. You can try searching past sales on Ebay for the same item and see what the lasts few sold for there to give you close to an estimate on what it's worth now. |

Only seven 9.8's have ever been sold on sites that GPA track so in the buyer's eyes it is indeed a rare book. |

Also this came out in 04/01 there are only a total of 33 - 9.8's of this actual comic. So if a Star Wars fan really wants this book at a 9.8 they are going to pay a high price for it. If people have a ton of raw high grade copies of it just sitting around you would think they would be flooding the market with it right now seeing how the average price for this at a 9.8 is $1,350. |

And then it will drop like it always does....Why do people keep thinking it's "rare" when more copies exist out there and they haven't been graded yet and it's from 2001 you really mean to think is this book was like the Walking Dead #1 that people wouldn't have found out this like maybe 20 years ago not six months ago because of "Speculation" look at the Dark Horse SW books you really mean to tell me that ALL of those books command this crazy ass premium prices? NO!
That could be said for many books. I to think the market is out of control but to say that this isn't a rare 9.8 for a die hard Star Wars collector just because you're banking on there being tons of these laying around that haven't been graded yet isn't the market we live in right now. Look at New Mutants 98 there is an average of 2k-3k being graded a year but the price is still sky rocketing right now. |

Unfortunately raw prices go up to crazy prices as well when graded versions are selling for so high. The problem with the raw books right now is that quite a few sellers think they have 9.8 raws when they aren't, but they expect to get that high dollar amount and people pay it not realizing they are getting ripped off. But if it costs you let's say $100 to get a book shipped, cleaned, pressed and graded and the 9.8 graded is selling for $1000 what do you think a 9.8 raw is worth? If they are a seller that can afford to wait they either get it graded and sell it for top dollar or they make sure they sell it at the highest dollar amount possible raw. And no Ebay isn't the end all for pricing but it's starting to become that way in today's market. More and more LCS are selling their key's and higher dollar items online due to how high the prices are getting. These buyers are now even starting to take over the other not so known auction sites. I mean right now THOR #337 is up to $1,300 for a 9.8 on comiclink with an hour to go. These are crazy times for comic books. |
