Trapped: One X-Man After Professor X appears to have been "robbed of his telepathy" as a result of an explosion during their battle with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in issue#4, the X-Men return him to the mansion and allow him time to rest. They are soon interrupted by the arrival of (the first appearance of) Jean's parent's, John Grey and Elaine Grey, at which time they have to quickly change out of their uniforms and into normal clothing.
The X-Men give Jean's parents a tour of the school. As they leave the Danger Room, Cyclops is accidentally trapped inside with a Beast simulator programmed into the console. Because Cyclops is able to survive this Danger Room debacle, the Greys are reassured that sending Jean there was the right things to do.
Meanwhile, it is revealed that Mastermind has been dispatched by Magneto to find the X-men but has failed in his attempt to find them. He and Quicksilver return to Magneto's base, which for the first time is revealed to be Asteroid M. Quicksilver, Toad, and Scarlet Witch begin plotting but Magneto quells their quest for blood by coming up with a new plan to use Toad to trap them.
We switch back to find the X-men watching TV to try to relieve their minds of Professor X's illness as well as to relax from their recent battle with the BoEM. On the TV there is a young track athlete who has extraordinary leaping abilities. Because the other competitors notice his abilities are bit too superhuman, they become angered and turn into an angry mob. The X-Men then realize this athlete must be a mutant in need of their aid.
Upon arriving, the X-men rescue Toad and ponder why this new mutant is familiar to them. Toad tries to escape and the X-men attempt to apprehend him as Magneto and the BoEM arrive and attack. The Brotherhood captures Angel then flee to Asteroid M. Toad gets left behind.
On Asteroid M, Angel is tortured in order to coerce him into revealing the location of the X-Men's headquarters. As a result of Professor X's training, Angel resists. Toad summons a ship that returns he and the X-Men to Asteroid M. Magneto devises a plan to have the X-Men sucked into the vacuum of space by blowing up the airlock. Scarlet Witch prevents him from doing this. The X-men quickly rescue Angel and escape in a landing pod.
The X-men return to the mansion to find that Professor X has his powers and is completely healthy. The Professor had devised a plan to fake losing his powers in order to test the X-Men's ability to handle situations without him. This served as their "final exam", which they passed.
