...And The WAR'S DESOLATION
Following the final battle against Beyonder, the Silver Surfer travels across the large hole blasted across the Rocky Mountains that reaches down to the Earth's core caused in the battle. As the Surfer travels along it, he realizes that the damage caused to the Earth will soon lead to the planet's eventual destruction. He is soon joined by Captain Marvel of the Avengers, who has come to ask the Surfer if he can help them try to repair the damage. The Surfer agrees and as they head back to the location where the final battle took place, Captain Marvel explains to the Surfer, just who the Beyonder is! She explains that months earlier the Beyonder captured an army of heroes and villains in Battleworld to take part in a Secret War to learn about this universe. After the battle ended, the Beyonder had come to Earth to learn what it was like to desire things. After taking the form of Captain America, he began interacting with the people of Earth to learn. The Avengers finally learn engagement with the Beyonder is more trouble than helpful and the Wasp's original attempts to recruit the Beyonder into the is a moot point.
When the Beyonder fails at being worshipped as a religious guru, he becomes violent and attempts to destroy the Earth, which the heroes quickly thwart.
Captain Marvel explains that after the events, most of the other heroes have left or are sent home leaving the Avengers to clean up. It wasn't until then that the full scope of the damage done to Earth is realized. As the Avengers duck for cover during a massive earthquake, the Black Knight dislocates his shoulder and Namor almost perishes when falling into the lava below before he is saved by Mr. Fantastic, who has realized the scope of the damage done to the Earth. Reed Richards then quickly returns with the Fantastic Four to help. With her story complete the two heroes near the camp and the Surfer faintly detects a familiar energy source.
