How Like A Serpent's Tooth... Continued from last issue...
Surrounded by Morgan and 4 members of his drug organization, Power Man is caught stealing heroin for rival drug lord Cottonmouth. While looking down the barrel of a bazooka, Luke Cage remembers how he arrived in this dire situation. Luke was trying to clear his name when an informant told him about Cottonmouth. Cottonmouth was the source of the drugs that were used to frame him and he’s the one who killed his informant, Flea. Luke is only doing Cottonmouth’s bidding until he can find evidence to clear his name.
Back to the scene with Luke surrounded by Morgan and his men. Luke makes a desperate dive into the crowd of men to avoid the bazooka blast and the fight ensues. Mr. Cage is able to knock out Morgan’s goons and use Morgan as his way out. Disguised as a body guard, Luke and Morgan walk out the front door past all the protection to a waiting car. After dropping off Morgan on a deserted street, Luke delivers the drugs to Cottonmouth. Now as an accepted member of the Cottonmouth drug organization, Luke can see the inner working and hopefully find a record to clear his criminal record.
Meanwhile Claire Temple leaves the free clinic for California. She is reluctant to tell Dr. Burstein any details and tells him that Luke shouldn’t follow her.
Luke has grown tired of waiting for evidence on Cottonmouth and calls in a tip. Cottonmouth and Slick come in during the call and a fight occurs. During the altercation Cottonmouth implies that Mr. Slick is too valuable to be in this fight. As the battle escalates Luke punches Cottonmouth who runs into Slick who falls out the window to his death. It’s then that Luke Cage is told Slick had a photographic memory and that he was the only record.
Lt. Burke who is the detective that Luke called was still on the line when the fight was over. Did he hear enough to clear Luke’s name? Regardless the police will soon arrive to put Cottonmouth in jail.
