"Is he the master of spectacular trickery or is he something more?"

The opening scene is Mister Miracle sprawled out on the bathroom floor after trying to commit suicide. (Yes, this is a Mature title) Mister Miracle is taken to the hospital for treatment while a distraught Big Barda waits in the lobby crying. After some time he is released from the hospital to a school of hungry reporters trying to get a comment.

Orion appears in his apartment and demands that he stand, once he does, Orion punches him. This continues until Barda interrupts the “teaching”. Orion is the son of Darkseid but he was raised on New Genesis. Mister Miracle was the son of Highfather but raised in the pits of Apokolips.

After he leaves Scott questions the color of his wife’s eyes, signaling something isn’t completely right with Scott.

On a television show Mister Miracle shows how he can escape any trap to the applause of the audience. The host asks him about his suicide attempt and he explains that he was trying to escape death.

Highfather comes to see Scott and Barda on Earth and explains that he cannot stay long because Darkseid has a new weapon, the anti-life equation.

Scott Free and Oberon are talking about some Thanagarian cuffs that are supposed to be impossible to break out of. Scott gets free in just a few moments though. Barda enters and says she doesn’t like for him to be alone. Scott says he was talking to Oberon but she reminds him that Oberon died last month.

Scott gets a notification from Mother Box that Highfather is dead and that Orion has taken control of New Genesis. Barda and Mister Miracle are required to come home. When they are about to enter the boom tube for New Genesis Scott is having self doubt. He doesn’t understand what is real and what is distorted by his mind. She encourages him to go anyway.
