So You Want to Sell Your Comics?

Good Morning all.
Just joined, so thanks for the acceptance, because I too have comics I'm also trying to sell because I'm not a collector.
I have run through some of the questions and answers here, which has given me some insight into what I need to do but I have some other questions too.
I have noticed some sellers list their comics with a grading determination in the listing yet the comic is not encapsulated in plastic with a grading companies name or number. how do they grade their comics?
Is it more enticing to a potential buyer when a listing says "ungraded", so a bulk buy would be cheaper or even negotiable, rather then a bunch of graded comics which would obviously be higher in price? In this scenario, the buyer might hit the jackpot or maybe make nothing above the sale price? |

THANKS GUYS!!!
I am taking notes for sure.
So whilst going through this site, I saw I could add my comics to my collection piggy backing on someone else's listing which was so cool to do however I think there were listing errors for example direct edition and newsstand editions. Looking at my comics, the DIRECT EDITION has a bar code on the cover whilst the others do not and some listings have DIRECT EDITION written on their listing but their cover picture does not and the other way round. I also found 5 of my comics not listed on the site and I could not load my pictures but damn besides that, this site has everything comic book people need. |

Welcome to the site and the forums!
"Grading" does not just mean sent to a 3rd party and encapsulated. All comics have some sort of grade. Un-encapsulated comics are called "raw". So, when you go to list your comics for sale, your best bet is to take some of the advice from earlier in this thread and learn, at the very least, the rudiments of grading. That way you can give an approximate grade for each of your comics. You'll find most people, if you list a comic at 8.0 and it's actually a 7.0->7.5 won't care too much. The exception to that rule is very high value comics. But for regular issues, just learn how to grade and do your best.

This morning I watched the tutorial on the app regarding the 28 steps of grading and I took a comic and graded it myself according to the steps I was shown. Now I might have made a mistake or two but my grading of the comic was a 7.0 and that one had 3 small tears on the inner pages now I am wondering how the one comic I have will grade because it looks mint from the cover and I'm too afraid to take it out of the plastic cover. |

Sorry to necro this thread but I was wondering how people justify $6000 comics with a +- 9.4 grading?
I am going through various posts on comics and the grading thereof and then the prices they are asking for the then graded comic and it's mind blowing.
I understand that there might be a buyer willing to pay that price for a graded comic but how would a seller determine the price of that comic?
I want to sell my comics and ungraded I determined their prices to be around $3 dollars a piece without shipping and around $6 with shipping, obviously negotiable but then I downloaded the grading app and I attempted to grade my own comics. I graded 2 comics and one was a 7.0 and the other was a 9.4, so should I adjust my pricing in line with other similar graded comics although they have been graded by the CGC? |

Can someone tell me how to grade a comic with no staples in the spine?
I recently used the free app and graded 2 of my comics, this particular comic did not have staples in it so graded it the best I could and it ended up being a 9.4.
Do all comics come with staples? Why did this particular one not have staples (I did not check my other comics for similar ones)? |

Most books come with staples unless it's a square-bound issue, which is glued. If a regular book that should have staples is missing them or they were removed it isn't a 9.4. It's an incomplete book and worth very, very little.
Ok then the one I graded was square-bound then. I assumed it was glued because you could see it had no staples whatsoever, but what happens in grading because square-bound books have no steps in the 28 point grading process according to the app. |

They get graded the same way. Staples are usually inside, so all the pages are stapled together, then the cover is glued on. So you can still check for rust, etc...
Thanks for that.
I had another look at the comic I was referring too and I would not trust myself or a grading company to really open the comic to search for staples unless they use an x-ray machine so I did a test with a pin pointer.
A comic with staples sets the pin pointer off and this comic does not go off so it is bound with no staples at all. |

I recently say a 1.0 graded comic for sale of almost $19 000.00 how can that be?
I understand having a comic graded but who then determines the selling price? |
