Getting Started on Selling Comic Books

I ended acquiring a small collection of comic books. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to assess what I have, but I would eventually like to be able to sell all of it. Does anyone have any good suggestions on doing so in such a way that I can get them out the door in a reasonable time frame, especially determining what would be worth my time in trying to sell them?
And as a side question, would it be worth signing up for an extended account here, given that I really won't have any interests beyond getting these particular books gone? I do note (look at what I entered in so far) that I'm finding a few books that seem to be beyond the pedestrian according to the price guide, so I have to wonder how best to maximize what I have. |

I'd recommend a mix of the two styles, though, if you are looking to get rid of everything quick. Take a look through the collection and take out the best issues. Ones with age or ones with high value should be separated out and listed individually in the classifieds here, on eBay or on craigslist.
I'm pretty experienced with baseball cards, so I pretty much have my expectations in line with that. So I'm not going to be too tripped up. My main worry is being able to get out from under them quickly enough in case things go south (my housing situation is precarious, along with my finances), and since I don't know anything about the market, I can't say too much about my options. If the "collection" tool here seems useful enough, I might pay a month just to be able to catalog it and put it out there a lot easier, rather than doing 100+ ebay auctions or the like. The main problem I see is that it's all (mostly) older stuff wrapped in plastic baggies, so I recognized pretty quickly I need to tread lightly.
The good thing about it is that I (more or less) got it for a song, so more or less as long as I don't spend too much time or money on it that I can't get back, I'll be doing well.

If nothing else, keep a little excel database of what you have. It will make things so much easier in the long run for you.
Hopefully what I'm doing now can be exported. I think I saw an option for that. Main thing right now is that I'm trying to figure out what's here and then what to do with it from there. |

Ok, sounds like you have a decent idea of things. Yes, you can export the data from CPG, though I know you will need a paid account to store more than 50 issues.
And as I said, you can probably sell them in bulk pretty quickly on craigslist, if you ever need to, or take them to a dealer if you need the money really fast. edited by CapnDoug on 2/5/2016
I got a paid account, hopefully I can show the list on here to interested buyers somehow. As for bulk, for what most of them are coming up for in the price guide here that aren't obvious "Got to try them on e-bay" comics (I'm already sorting those aside), I'd have to ask $1 an issue at minimum, given most of them are coming up around $3-$6 in the mint range. Once they're all scanned, I'll have to go through the list and see what's there and proceed from that I suppose.
Edit: I got through the pile and only have the "unsures" left which I'll ask about in another place. I haven't figured out how to put them up as "for sale" here, but for those that want to look at what I have:

Numerous Items I Couldn't Locate

I got through the list of the things I could find on the database, but some that I couldn't. Those described below:
1. I have a graphic novel called Elric: Sailor on the Seas of Fate, as published in 1987. I found http://comicspriceguide.com/titles/elric-the-sailor-on-the-seas-of-fate/uoss , but don't see a cover like the one I have here. Since it's a large number of pages, my first guess is that what I have is the whole series bound together, but I'm not 100% sure, and I definitely don't see a reference on the price guide anywhere.
2. Another graphic novel called Avengers: The Korvac Saga as published in 1991. I found http://comicspriceguide.com/titles/avengers-the-korvac-saga/ucutj, which seems to fit as it has Avengers covers from 167, 168, 170-177. Any ideas on this particular one?
3. A book just labeled "The Sensational Spider-Man" published in 1989 with featuring "The Punisher and Dr. Strange" on the back. I can't get anything come up in the price guide on this one.
4. Another book "The Sensational Spider-Man" published in 1989 entitled "Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut".
5. "Teen Angst: A Treasury Of '50's Romance" published in 1990. More or less reprints of comics from the 1950's relating to romance stuff.
6. "The Adventures of the Screamer Bros. #2. I found http://www.ebay.com/itm/ADVENTURES-OF-THE-SCREAMER-BROS-1990-Series-2-Good-Comics-Book-/281925187999?hash=item41a40cf99f:g:yHsAAOSwa-dWsHfW, but not seeing it in the database.
Any ideas? |

Glenn, try searching by Publisher.
Okay, that got 3, 5 and 6.
#4 is entered wrongly: http://comicspriceguide.com/titles/sensational-spider-nothing-can-stop-the-jugge/pkwvn
I found 1 and 2, but not the right printings. I have older ones with wrong covers.
#2 (mine has a 1991 Print Date, yellow cover): http://comicspriceguide.com/titles/avengers-the-korvac-saga/ucutj Mine is correctly listed here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/THE-AVENGERS-The-Korvac-Saga-TPB-Rare-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Marvel-1st-print-/321911294440?hash=item4af36889e8:g:Qw8AAOSw9N1VkMqF
#1 (mine is published in 1987, purple cover, I think this is the entire set in one graphic novel): http://comicspriceguide.com/titles/elric-the-sailor-on-the-seas-of-fate/uoss Mine is listed correctly here: http://www.amazon.com/Elric-Sailor-Seas-Roy-Thomas/dp/0915419246/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454904312&sr=8-1&keywords=0915419246 edited by Glenn9999 on 2/7/2016 |

#1 is in there too. After selecting the issue, click on the tab above that says "Trade Paper Back."
Just didn't see it, I suppose (new to the site / comic books in general).
Looks like only #2 is left now. I found the 2010 print on the site, so I'd have to think the 1991 print would have more book value mint, so hopefully I can find out an idea of exactly how much.
Thanks for the help! |
