My Collection Improvements

Ron,
I know this post was from a while ago and the "top" lists for individual comics has gone to I think 25, which is great! It looks like the hope is to have it go further as the tab on the bottom says page 1 of #, depending of the number of books we have but so far doesn't go past page one. I look forward to this improvement as well!
Good job with all the new improvements!

I may have a lot of links to send soon... I have been trying to have CPG correct it's prices for Canadian Whites for years. There are currently quite a few up on the ComicConnect site. What is great about their listings is, yes they say the books are from an established collection, but they also state the fact that most are either the only copy listed at CGC or one of only a handful. When I tried to get the prices changed I was told that only a single sale, or a copy from a pedigree collections that was sold couldn't represent a valid sale to base the prices upon. The point is ALL CANADIAN WHITES ARE SCARCE with many, Especially from publishers Bell Features and Maple Leaf, estimated to have less than 20 copies period with few or none being high grade. Many of the listed auction books say they are "the highest" or close to it and only have a rating of a 6.0 or less. CPG should reflect all this.

It would be nice if whomever was in charge of the corrections could watch the auctions as well to see what I mean (most books are already at least triple the CPG listed price and there is still over two weeks to go.)

I realize this is a "Niche" market, as as stated for the reason for getting members involved (books that may fall outside of the interests of most) but it consists of a whole period with growing awareness in all parts of Canada. The collector whose books are for sale is American, so interest does go past our borders.

Creator additions

I've been waiting two years for Peter Hsu to be added to the creator list so I can finish adding info for Adventure Comics from the 80's. The rest of their main writers and artist have been added but not him, and he was there big cover artist. Could somebody please finally do this? While I'm here, did Moebius get added yet? Jean Giraud that is...

Stephen.

What section of the site would you like us to attach the links? I assume not here, but under the "missing/changes" forum or somewhere else?

I really like this option, but want to know how often our suggestion/links are checked. It's just that I know the auction sites may not have the pictures/descriptions up a few months after the auction has ended so it will make them harder to check after a time.
Also (yes, I'm still on about the Canadian comics from the fifties and earlier) I found a great example of how off CPG is for these books. I just sent a "suggested price increase" for Nelvana, a one-shot from 1945 featuring one of the most sought after characters from the period, Nelvana. She pre-dates Wonder Woman by a few months and is rare in all of her appearances. The link is for an auction from 2016 for a CGC copy graded 5.0. What does CPG have this comic listed for in this grade? $24. What did it sell for in 2016? $14,750. Today it would go for much more...

Now, obviously this is one of THE key books, but it shows the vast discrepancy between the guide and the market reality. I hope that consideration is given to all the links and suggestions I have given as the 1940's especially and a few of the early fifties books are scarce they do not come up for auction often.

Another quick question. I think I got something wrong and may need to re-enter stuff, which is fine.
Since most comics don't have a value change in the CPG pages until after a grade of 7 the graded comics I was adding I was going for an UNGRADED price change (as they were generally graded 1.0 to 6). Even then I was reducing the amount suggested to 20% to 50% of what the CGC comic went for at auction. Should graded comics only be added for graded price changes? Will that still translate into RAW price changes? I've never been clear how that works on the site as there is so much variability in the prices. I can put them all back in as graded but since we're not supposed to put info in on the same books twice wanted to check first.
Cheers!

Fantastic, thanks!
I'll put the stuff back in under the "Graded" section. (I admit I didn't notice it when I first started, and then I just kept going!)
Glad it's helping out!

Lucky Comics 1941

I'm trying to add more Canadian White's, but still find the loading photos to this site a problem.
The link below is to the Photobucket album with the covers to 9 of the 10 issues for "Lucky Comics vol I". The photos are from comics.org (GCD, or Grand Comics Database). They have a lot of the Canadian Whites and other hard to find gems for others looking for photos of scarce items. They're not a price guide at all, just a source of publication information.

Crime Fighters by Bell Features missing most issue

iron_puppy
iron_puppy
I just purchased an issue of Crime Fighters #7 published by Bell Features and found that only the first issue is listed in CPG.

While there may not have been an issue #2, GCD does have photos of issues 3-9. I have included (hopefully) just the cover from the issue I have.

It is a Bell Features reprint of Crime Fighters by Marvel and the Canadian cover for issue 7 is the cover used for the 6th issue of the US series.

The Canadian edition is from June 1949.

Updating Comic Values

I'm glad we can now submit price suggestion, but wondered why only the eBay ones I put in were being done so I checked a copied link from a ComicLink auction and you can't view the end price unless you log in. Not sure if ComicConnect has that as well, but it would explain a lot. Do the people checking our links take the time to log in? I've sent in well over 60 links for Canadian White auctions and if they don't get looked at with a month or two the information will disappear from the sites, which is another limitation.

Also, I realize I said Canadian Whites but recognize many of my links were for Superior Publishing which didn't start until after the designated "Canadian Whites" period, but are still cool old Canadian comics. They are just more common as they were all sold more widely.

Need help on comic book storage questions....Plus

iron_puppy
iron_puppy
I worked in an archive collection at a library growing up and decided when I got more valuable comics to use Archival envelopes. They are not sold at comic stores as they are not a "hobby" bag. You can't see through them (but so what as they are stored in a box right?) but it is special pH paper designed to counter acidity, a problem with older comics, and are stiff enough I don't use boards. They are also designed for long-term storage. Acid free boards can be found, but are expensive. Regular boards in mylar bags defeat the hole point of the mylar. I also keep the more special books in my collection lying flat, not upright like everyone advertises. It helps keep the air and moisture out as the weight presses them and they are less likely to bend being flat. Harder to view, but I don't take them out often.
As for your heater, if you can direct or block it's direct venting onto your boxes it would go a long way to their preservation. Just put something between them and the air will help, like thick plywood.
