BAD SELLERS!!

So what is one to do when they stumble upon a seller here that just doesn't know how to mail a comic book? Why would anyone think they could send "NM" comic books in plain old manila envelopes, no cardboard, no protection at all and have them arrive to the buyer without any damage? Shouldn't there be a feedback system here to protect other buyers from the clueless? .............Any thoughts? edited by rixmaxx on 5/20/2017 |

How do you renew PayPal preapproval?

I've got a gold membership using PayPal, which creates some sort of "preapproval" for allowing automatic renewal of the subscription over time. Apparently that preapproval agreement is ending, so the CPG auto-notifier thing has been sending me warnings that my subscription is going to be canceled soon if I don't extend the preapproval.
Looking at the PayPal FAQ, it sounds like extending the preapproval is something I need to do from the seller's site (CPG) not PayPal's site. However, I don't see any options to do that here.
Does anyone know how to renew a PayPal preapproval so I don't lose my subscription? (I did send a message to CPG via "Contact Us" but I've not heard anything back.)
I am a Gold Member and I too use Paypal to pay for my subscription but I don't know what "preapproval" you are talking about. Do you have a bank account linked to your Paypal account and have "verified" address info? |

When you sign up using PayPal and allow renewals, that renewal is only "allowed" for a finite period of time. If you click the little gear icon in the top corner of PayPal, then select "Payments," then "Manage Pre-Approved Payments," then "pre-approved payment plans" you'll see a screen listing the PayPal payments that allow for auto-renewal. This gets set up between Comics Price Guide (the seller) and PayPal at the time you subscribe. (Yes, that screen is buried pretty deep and is hard to find if you don't know what you're looking for.)
There's an expiration date on the pre-approved payment plan. It can usually last a few years, but it's not infinite.
Mine's at a point where it's about to expire.
According to the PayPal FAQ, this is something that has to happen on the back end - between the seller's system and the PayPal system. There are no buttons in PayPal to extend the agreement. There's nothing on the Comics Price Guide site to extend the agreement.
Hence the question: Is there something I'm missing? Some admin somewhere who can re-up me? Or do I just have to let the subscription lapse and create a new PayPal payment plan at that time?
That's weird, I've been on here since 2011 and I've never had to renew anything. I set up payment by Paypal and haven't had to do anything special since. |

Ability to export "My Comic Collection"?

Any update on when the next version may be available with the exporting capabilities? Also, how about adding some simple search criteria. For example * Give me all my comics valued $200 or more. * Give me all comics graded 9.0 or above. * Give me all comics graded 9.0 or above and valued at $200 or more. I'm sure there are a few other options that could easily be added. Of course with the export, one can do this themselves if they have the skills in excel or databases. But adding a screen like this and the results seems like it would be greatly used.
While you're holding your breathe for that, have you ever tried Comicbase? I have all my comics imputed into both systems. (CBPG and Comicbase) Each has pros and cons but Comicbase has all the breakdown criteria options you could want. With my books in both systems, I have a better idea of the true value range of them...............Just my two cents. edited by rixmaxx on 6/8/2017 |

What series are you seeing drops? I only pay attention to Batman books, no drops there.
I follow Marvel bronze age mostly. The minor keys like Iron man 128. Any Ms Marvel. Black panther and some Amazing spiderman. For instance an Iron man 128 sold this week for around $5 yet in the past I've seen it go for literally 10 times that price at the same grade. Inhumans #1 this week a copy went for $10 in the past same again 10 times that at a similar grade. It's like the bottoms dropped out of the lower end market.
No way are prices "crashing." As for the examples you used, Iron Man #128 sold for $7.50 plus $6.50 for shipping. It was a 3.5 at best, so it actually went for well above guide. The Inhumans #1 that sold for $6.76 and $4.75 shipping, was a 2.5 at best, so it too sold for way above guide. Any books in nice condition are selling for at least guide, sometimes double, even triple. The ones you see going cheap are the low grade books, those you can always find a deal if you look hard enough. |

Look up each one separately, meaning, type in "classics illustrated # 5", all in the comic title space, nothing in the issue # space. There are so many versions on each number, they each have their own page. |

Everyone may say just collect keys or 1st App. but there is so much more out there! Anyhoo! here are some books you should have as a start ...
Marvel Comics: ASM (Amazing Spider-Man) #298-300 (1st App: Venom & Todd McFarlane artwork). There are too many ASM books to mention here that one would collect. ASM #238 with Lakeside Tattooz insert. Fantastic Four #252 also with Lakeside Tattooz insert Star Wars #1 & 2 (1st app: Star Wars characters pre movie). #42 1st App: Boba Fett & #68 (Boba Fett cover) lastly #107 HTF. the whole series is cool & any book in high grade would be a good buy. Silver Surfer Vol.3 #34, #44-50 All Thanos & Infinity Gauntlet Related. Thanos Quest #1-2. Same as above.
DC Comics: Batman Adventures #1-36. Plus Annuals & Special (Mad Love). Batman #423 (Todd McFarlane Cover), #426-429 (Death in the Family Story-line). Preacher #1-66. including all specials & one-shots. Tales of the Teen Titans #44 first Nightwing Superman Adventures #4-5 Cameo & 1st App: Livewire. Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #134 1st App: Darkseid (in a tiny panel Lol) Forever People #1 first full Darkseid.
... again there are 2 zillion more books out to get Lol. I'm these will be enough to get your mouth watering, Do your research & only buy higher grade (around 7.5 & above). The other members hopefully will be kind enough to add what they think is cool books to get.
Have fun dude & ask any questions you want on the subject, We all would love to hear it.
Ok, before I think about adding my two cents, I gotta know Mr Blackwell , why the FF #252 ? Just for the Tattooz? Thanks |

CGC or CBCS for grading?

Again very new to all this. I noticed there is CGC and CBCS for grading comics... Are they the two industry standards? (if that even is a thing). Are there other grading services?
Also any thoughts on which is better in terms of service, value and over all trust worthiness when at a convention of over the course of time? (Meaning if something is graded by CGC is that better or worse than having it graded by CBCS... or does it even matter?)
again thank you for the help.
CGC was the first and has been "the standard" for comic book grading since 2000. CGC's top grader and KING of this field , Steve Borock, left CGC and started CBCS. CBCS's services are more reasonable and a little "easier" to use right now. There is PGX, but "scandals" in the past (look them up for yourself 'cause as Thumper's daddy said, " if you can't say 'nothin nice.....:" ) have made some collectors leery of using them. They probably are the cheapest though. ..... So yes I'm with Defiant, if you have a choice, I'd go with CBCS. |
