My friend who sold me his Treasury Comics collection told me that these were some of the hardest for him to find...

I used to have my own website titled "Big Tel's Web Page" many years ago. Yes - very silly website name! I used the site to list Marvel and Malibu variant covers and promotional/giveaway comics.

After putting a lot of effort into it over a few years, work commitment and kids started taking over and I just didn't get the time to keep it updated. Eventually the site that was hosting it closed down, and I even lost my domain name (www.big-tel.com) because I never got round to renewing it.

I still have all the files for the site though, and if I can ever be bothered, I may upload them all and get the site running again.

Cheers

I know about your old site. Some Valiant Comic fans wanted to turn my messageboard into an Ultraverse messageboard.
It annoyed me a little, because I'm not really a fan of the comics line. I created an Ultraverse category to segregate the conversation so It didn't dominate my "General Comics Discussion" category. . My checklist was a byproduct. I've shifted my focus from buying massive amounts of comics to becoming more of a comics historian. The information appealed to me, just not the creative content within the pages. I eventually shut down the category because it dominated everything. Your web page was repeatedly used as a reference for my board members. My checklist would not exist if not for you inspiring them to research the line and build upon what you already knew. As my members got annoyed with me and departed my messageboard, I encouraged them to take the info they'd collected and start their own site. One of my former board members did make a really nice Ultraverse blog and he's collected information on the promotional materials and such. You are a forefather of Ultraverse collecting. One of the elders. wink

I came across 11 unsold issues of the one with Howard the Duck and The Defenders all in NM or better condition.
Surprisingly the most I could get on EBay was 8 or 9 dollars a piece for them. I wish I would have kept one for my pc. They're just so hard for me to store with the rest of my collection.

I store them sideways with the spine up in a magazine box. Only a few items in my collection are too big for that. I have over 3 magazine boxes full.

I have 2 comic short boxes that are a tiny bit longer than normal - they work smile
If I buy any more I'll need to start a 3rd box and get some more treasury sized backer boards.

I'm acquiring more and more oversized items that won't fit in any boxes have. The "Marvel Try-Out Book" was the first over-sized problem I had. It is just too tall. Then again my Kiss comic the size of poster has to be stood up in the back of my closet.

The collector's buying reading copies have thinned out. Publishers have been selling collected volumes where you don't need to buy the back issues. The whole back issue market has shifted to people buying extremely high grade. Certified grading services have a lot to do with that.

Good to know what ashcans are. I guess the name says it all. Burn after reading. LOL
Thanks!

The term "ashcan" now is tied to promotional comics. The original definition ties back to Trademark registration in the 1940's. Publishers would make covers for the title they wanted to register and put those covers over another comic's interior. They were used for the sole purpose of registering a new trademark and blocking the competition from using a title.

Here was Fawcett trying to register "Flash Comics", but DC registered first. This is a true ashcan as it was originally defined.

Images quit loading for me at the cpg site. Is this it?

You have to spell out d-o-c-t-o-r and not abbreviate as "Dr,"
