Acid free storage boxes, is it overkill?

I use EGerber mylites2 and fullbacks to store my comics. Is it silly to buy acid free storage boxes if using Mylar and acid free backing boards for comics? A storage box is just a box is my thinking, paying extra for a acid free storage box doesn’t make sense to me. 5 boxes for $75, $15 a box. $15 a box might as well buy plastic corrugated box. Any thoughts to set me straight is much welcomed.

Okay - to get serious. It is important to store comics properly. You are going the extra effort and expense of storing in mylar. Great job.
As noted in the link below - Polypropylene bags should be "acid neutral". You comic book boxes should be at least "acid neutral" as well. If you put in a plastic box there is a chance the box could have some small amount of out-gassing - this should be absorbed by your boards - but you may have to change boards more often.
As noted here http://www.bagsunlimited.com/category/55/comic-storage-boxes comic book boxes are special made from acid-free materials.
Hope this helps.

Need Help! Bugs Bunny Variant?!

I checked three sources and by issue #120 all Bugs Bunny comics were $0.15.

https://www.newkadia.com/?isu=680|120#IN120
It could well be that for issues # 116 - #118 the published mixed 12 and 15 cent copies.
My opinion is that there is no value difference here between issues of different cover prices. This was not an unusual practice for a price change to be spread over a couple of months. Heck, it may have been different publishers or a different run with same publisher.
A few Marvel books in the 1970's they put out two different prices for the months - the 35 cent ones are worth more than the 30 cent ones - just on rarity (Ref Amazing Spider-Man #170 and 171 as an example.). This is the exception, not the rule. As a general rule there is no value change due to cover price. edited by kds_comics on 4/12/2018 edited by kds_comics on 4/12/2018 edited by kds_comics on 4/12/2018 |

Any chance to improve the scroll bar? Cool in that it shows pictures of three to four comics for sale. but I think a list would be better. I am not getting any hits on my items for sale with this new system... Maybe it is just me.

Is that all you got? A good start - but I am sure there are a couple of hundred more.
A quick check on Pinterest turns up 74 covers: The weird and unusual includes: Buffy Comics #8 (Dark Horse), Popeye #1 (IDW 2012), Superman 2099 #136, Nodwick #8 (Dork Tower), and Regular Show #1 (Kaboom). Need I go on??? It's ridiculous!!! Here is my favorite. I would post picture on CPG but rules prevent it. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/519321400757487688

Title clearly says these are Dell reprints of the Hawley comics. I would encourage you not to get hung up on the "Canadian Edition" thing. See discussions on UK edition comics here. Ultimately the value is usually slightly less than US value even through fewer were printed. Or there is no value difference. https://comicspriceguide.com/forum/topic11434-uk-comic-collectors.aspx

I've looked under the Marvel "V" tab, I've scrolled through all the responses searching just "Venom", as well as "Venom Seed" and "Venom Darkness" both with and without the colon. I checked under various tabs, just in case, and I am just not finding it anywhere... I've attached the cover (so others who take the time to look [thank you!!] have something to compare, and in case the database doesn't already have it).
A note to all - remember the banner on the cover is often the name of the story, not the comic book's official title. |

You will have to ask the admins here. My opinion is - if there is no price difference, why take the time and effort on a new listing? As I said - don't ask me - ask an admin.

Editing while on sale?

If you go to the sales list for a title, show the ones you have on sale - you can edit the sale price. I also am advocate editing the condition while on sale - but so far you need to take off sale list, edit condition, the put back on sale.
Not my idea - ask admin |

Selling collection but question on grading

Ammo1231 wrote:
Hi All, I decided to sell my collection, found this site, read the grading information, and cataloged everything. A general question on how I graded them. Let's say I purchased these comics in the 1980's. Read them once, handling them very gingerly, put them in the plastic bag (some with cardboard backing), and stored them in the cardboard comic storage boxes. Never took them out until now. So the pages are not white, but they all have perfect edges and are obviously flat, no marks, creases, etc. Also, when I picked them up from the comic shop, I chose the best ones available. Anywho - I am wondering if assigning them a grade of near mint 9.4-9.6 is reasonable. What would be the best way to sell the entire collection? I imagine this is a common question, read through many of the posts out there, but didn't come across anything that might help. Thanks in advance for any and all responses!
Ammo Congrats on cataloging everything. Respectfully suggest you double the interior of those comics for conditions. Comic backing boards are good only for five to ten years (acid absorbing material is used up). General recommendation is to replace the board every five years. If kept indoors they could go ten years or more. Another reason to check is the paper used in the early to mid 1980's was not the best quality - it can degrade if not kept on top of. I know from experience. (place sad face here) :-(
There are a few good grading guides on the web. CPG has one. Another is here https://www.nostomania.com/servlets/com.nostomania.CatPage?name=ComicsGradingMain
My opinion is a raw grade of 9.4 is reasonable. This is the condition it would be right off the retailer shelf. I am extremely hesitant in giving a 9.6 grade to a raw comic. I have only one comic I have rated 9.6 in over 3500 comics here at CPG. Defiantly think twice before grading over 9.4. Slight wear in the spine will knock a book to 9.0 or lower - depending on how many creases. I have many books, read once - back and board - they range from 9.0 to 9.4.
I wish you well here in selling comics. (Or you could buy moire!!!)

First let me say thank you for writing down a summary of experiences. Suggest we need more takes like this on CPG forums. Thank you! Fantastic run down. Since I sell at a few local conventions a year, a few comments from vendor's perspective.
1) I started out by walking the full perimeter and just taking in a lay of the land and seeing what was there to do, to buy, and who there was to talk to. Are you crazy? Just buy my stuff - forget those other guys.
2) (I opted for the Mach 5 experience myself) Go Speed Racer - Go!!! . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43rxThjYWsE
3) I only spent $135.00. ($10 on admission and another $10 on food) Parking was free! Recommend you bring a sandwich/drink and spend another $10 at my booth! Parking was free? Where???
4 ) I spun a prize wheel and got The Walking Dead Tyreese Special for free. Congrats to you!! If I spun the wheel I would probably get NFL Superpro Special Edition https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/nfl-superpro-special-edition/1/rjyrov
5) Next I picked up a nifty Batman coaster for my comic room sometimes i need coffee to stay up and read. Fiver on that. I'd hit that!
6) I got them (my kids) batgirl, rocket racoon ,Baby Groot ,Venom and Deadpool. $5 As a vendor - one of few recent titles that sell quickly are Deadpool comics (I have a couple left at $2 each - shameless plug) Baby Groot is adorable. No issue there.
7) And For my daughter A Hand Made Batman Library bag. $20 No such thing as too much Batman and/or Bat-people!!!
8) avengers/jla #4...nabbed for $2!!!! </u> One of my favorite series. George Perez at his best.
Glad you got to see some friends. Make new friends. We all spend too much time on site (including this one - sorry CPG!) Encourage you all to get out there and check out your local conventions.
Expander - hope you take this post in the whimsical take it was indented. Nice of you to write down your experiences, Thank you. edited by kds_comics on 5/21/2018 |
