I'm more fond of realistic-looking art, not like Sam Keith. Joe Jusko is my definite favorite. Probably closely followed by Alex Ross. Here's my favorite of Jusko's...

I should've mentioned Frank Frazetta in my post. Joe Jusko's my favorite living artist after Frazetta died. I'll probably take flak for this, but I never liked the mouths and body poses of some of Jack Kirby's work. I was reading an old Machine Man recently, and all the soldiers in this full-page panel had the same face. By contrast, in an old Ditko comic, every face in the background crowd was different.
That Shock Suspenstories # 16 is ART. Not a drawing, but ART! You're right about the lighting, shading, shadows. Did anyone mention Dave Dorman? (I would like some Jusko art. ) Late 70s isn't Kirby's best work. And he gets bonus points for the sheer volume of work. Recent Ditko covers aren't awesome. They should probably count as Underground Comics because he's working so hard at keeping them out of mainstream outlets.
Robbie could you please show the most legendary issue of Weird Science-Fantasy #29 that you have. (Yes i know, you have 2 copies, Only awesome people have that many ) I'll re-post the poster i have of it as a reference later.
It is one of the best pre-code Frazetta covers.

This Wally Wood cover is near the top of my favorites list.

It was the first EC I bought.
