I recently acquired about 8 boxes full boxes of comics. They are all in plastic sleeves with cardboard backing in it. I know nothing about comics, but my general opinion is that they are untouched, therefore in mint condition. It appears as if they have been in the sleeve and taped shut from purchase. Of the ones I have gone through to begin cataloging, most are from late 90's.

I've been trying to make it to the local comic book store for an opinion on value but every time I go, they're closed. Getting anxious about it, so i thought I'd start here!

Also, after cataloguing the first 3 boxes, I've found a few that seem to have a high graded value (you should be able to see my collection?). I'd like some kind of realistic expectation for the value of these. I am in no rush to get rid of them, so if I have to get them "graded" to get the most money for them, that's what I'll do.

Advice, please!

I see you have a lot of books listed as "10's", are they graded as 10's or are you just giving them that grade? It's pretty hard to find "10's" especially as many as you have. Most new books at the store aren't "10's". To get a realistic sense of their value, you'll have to be realistic in their grading. To have them graded will cost you quite a bit of money, so you'll want heavily weigh the pros and cons of spending the money in having them graded. Most of the time the book should be "special", that being either key, rare, limited or hot. You should take some time to figure that out first. ....You have lots to think about.

Not many keys in late 90's. You not knowing how to grade, I wouldn't grade anything over very fine. It is much more realistic of a grade.

Very fine may be a little low depending on if the books were indeed taken care of as they seem to have been and being from the late 90's it is very possible to be of a high grade. Would agree though that there are not many keys in the late 90's.

Yes you are right about chances of books being better than very fine. I said this since you most likely wont get half the guide price in books from that era and wont get surprised how little you will get since original poster doesn't know much about comics and grading.

No, these are not graded. I did that so that I could have an Excel list to export with the highest graded values on them. I have changed them all back to the initial rating that the site gives them, 9.4 Near Mint. I will have to take the higher-valued ones into a comic book shop this week and figure it out. One of them in particular, X-Factor #75, comes up as 10.0 Gem Mint $4,800 and under Facts says it's a KEY issue. I'll probably search through and find ones like this to take into the store.

X-factor 75 is not worth more than $3.00 in any grade as a raw book. Where did you find the value of gem mint $4,800?
Whenever you get a stack of your "high value books" you think are worth real money, you should look on eBay and see what they have sold for to get a realistic price.

I think you need to look at those values for X-Factor #75 again. Bong

I assume you actually meant to type X-Factor #6. The guide has the 9.8 Graded value for this book at over $400 more than it actually sells for when compared to actual past sales.

Past Ebay Sales For X-Factor #6 CGC 9.8

I would suggest doing a lot more research on the difference between raw and graded comics and on how to accurately assess the condition of a comic book.
Also, the guide is a great place to get the "feel" for the worth of a comic book, but using completed sales from ebay (as I did in the example above) is a free an easy way to find out what most comic books are currently selling for.

I figured the bong icon was put on the list of smilies for just such an occasion.
I like this one, too. S&M Abuse
Good to see you around also, HR. Keep up with the good advice.

I should say I hope you do well selling your comics cur1ousbrun3tt3, and hopefully you might read a few before selling.
