Second Printing of #1 by Image Comics (the covers are identical, both even have the Image logo- the second print has a green tint and says "SECOND PRINTING. Published by Maximum Press" in the inside indicia)
Extra information for those that are interested...
Another oddity to this issue is that the Image edition is a flip book with a special preview of the New Men comic on the reverse. The second printing replaces all of those pages and the back cover with ads.
ALSO- this book was most likely printed in either 1997 or 1998 as the ads in the book have copywrite indicias from 1997. The indicia inside the front cover only says copywrite 1996.

I only found one recently sold on eBay and none currently listed for sale. Here's what they wrote in that listing-
Released by Image Comics in August 1996, this Limited-Edition, 36-page, 2nd Print Copy of 'Supreme #41-Variant Cover D' features Supreme (Ethan Crane) and more in a great full-length Original Story written by Alan Moore ('Watchmen', 'Swamp Thing', 'V For Vendetta') and illustrated by Joe Bennett & Norm Rapmund, has a cool Supreme Variant Homage Cover by artist Jerry Ordway, is in NM/Mint Condition, is bagged & boarded, has a Low Print Run and is a must have for any Supreme, Alan Moore or Image Comics collector or fan!
If anyone else in the community knows anything else about this I would be interested to hear it.

comics.org lists it, but has no date info other than the 1st printing, so they have it as Aug 1996, which like you say, is probably not right given the dates in the ads inside. I submitted it as a variant just now, so it'll get added at some point.
the e*** one sold for a best offer of $21.01 on Jan 19th according to 130point.
