I have an Avengers 57 that would probably grade at least 9.4, but it has numbers on the cover in what appears to be grease pencil. How would that affect the grading?

Can grease pencil be removed? (By a professional - I wouldn't try it)

Thanks.

not to be TOO sarcastic, but there's this neat thing called google (or whichever search engine you like) that has all the answers. if you search 'how to remove grease pencil on comic book" you'll get youtube videos and tutorials and all kinds of professional and amateur info. do NOT do what the top result says and use acetone on a cloth (that one is not for comic books), or any liquid period. usually you can carefully use a dry cleaning pad and get most or all of it off. the CGC forums have multiple posts on this subject that will show on the search results.

writing on the cover will usually kill the grade by 2 or more 'full' steps, as in a NM 9.4 will be more like a Fine 6.0, or even VG if you go by Overstreet standards, as VG is the 1st grade they allow 'initials etc' on the cover, vs date stamps etc.. grease pencil is usually 1 of the easier things to remove, so worth the expense to pay a pro to do it for a book like that in high grade, especially if you want to get it pro graded.

there ya go, have fun reading..

I've removed a few wax pencil dates before. It's wildly satisfying to remove something that distracts from the front cover. Done incorrectly it can cause color loss or rips so it's not to be taken on by rookies. You should definitely have someone you trust to remove it and then press your book.
