Is it possible to add another search criteria when looking for a specific comic? For example I have an a Vampirella Vol 5 #1 and for that alone I go through a couple pages looking for a particular cover (because sometimes the name of the cover artist isn't mentioned)? For example if the volume of the comic is known, that would seriously speed up the process.
Thanks in advance for all you do edited by Draven68 on 10/22/2020

I agree, it would save a lot of loading and scrolling time if we could search by series year and/or volume. might be a big pain for them to add that to the search engine tho.

We don't have the ability to search by volume yet but you can search by UPC code. If it's in the system, it will bring up the exact book. If the code isn't in the system, if you add it, it will immediately be searchable.
Side note, in the beginning, UPC codes were used over and over again so you could bring up as many as 10 books. But that is just for books from 1976 to 1986 Ron

so zactly how to we do that? is that feature only in the app? cuz it's not on the site using a desktop that I can find. some of us old guys don't have those phones that do apps. didn't see it mentioned in the youtube search tips video either, so it should be.
you said 'yet' on the ability to search by volume, so does that mean it's being looked into? hope so. and unless you have the comic in hand, it can be tough to find large enough pics to see the UPC numbers, so like when I'm trying to help someone find a comic I don't own (which is 99% of the time), I'd have to go google it and hope to find a large enough pic to read the bar code. and there's tons of books with no bar code entered yet anyway.
and then how do we type the code in? with the spaces between the sets of numbers or not? and adding the last group that specifies the actual book, spaced or not from the main UPC numbers?

Just put the UPC code in the "Search Comics" box at the top of the main page, with or without the dash, either works.

thanks, that seems to work. they oughta add that info somewhere. it's not intuitive to me to put the UPC number in the title box. makes more sense to use the Issue box (which I had tried earlier), because it's the ISSUE you're looking for, and the UPC numbers are for the particular issue of a title. we already know the title we're looking for.
it's not a feature that I'll use hardly at all, but least I know how to now. I'll add it to my search tips blurb too.

Collectible, This is a lot of questions.
The UPC Code search is a very recent addition, earlier this week or late last week. I didn't even know it was being worked on until it was finished. It's a surprise new feature. The way I see it working best is for titles that have several volumes like Venom or Vampirella. You don't want to go through pages of results so you type in the UPC code. On to the questions...
So zactly how do we do that? Type the number into the search field is that feature only in the app? It will not work on the app yet.
you said 'yet' on the ability to search by volume, so does that mean it's being looked into? We have not started work on that feature since we just heard the request. I personally don't know how much work this would take to accomplish.
and then how do we type the code in? With your fingers with the spaces between the sets of numbers or not? No spaces and adding the last group that specifies the actual book, spaced or not from the main UPC numbers? No spaces edited by ronbatman on 10/23/2020

thanks Ron. Rimaxx had told me most of what I needed to know tho
I had no info to go by, and all you said was we could search by UPC, but didn't mention that was brand new or how to do it. little details..
on the search by volume... you said 'we just heard the request.' I'm pretty sure I and others have requested search by volume or series year before, like years ago, and more recently. years and years ago I emailed Bryan with a list of more search options too, more like what the old Wizard comics site had, which was much better. maybe he's limited by the software tho, but the search engine here is not very sophisticated for 2020. comics.org has a very sophisticated advance search, perhaps too so, and I have found it not easy to use, but I'm not asking for something like that.
with so many reboots of series now, having a 'year' and/or volume field would be a great help. of course people may not know what year the series STARTED if they only have later issues, so they may have trouble picking a year, but that's fairly quick info to find. as long as there's an explanation that 'year' means year it started, that would really cut down on the wait time and results for searches. if you wanted to get real fancy you could use the actual year an issue was published (per the indicia), but that may take way too much time to input the info.
another nice feature Wizard had was the ability to list several issue numbers separated by commas, so you could look up a series of key issues (for 1 title) or whatever in 1 search. that was very handy, and faster than getting a huge list of a long title to paw thru, or doing multiple single searches.
so first Bryan can add the UPC search info to the FAQs and you to the videos, making sure to note that MANY issues do not have the UPC info input yet, and that members can add that info to help out.
back to you in the studio.. edited by collectibleshop on 10/23/2020
