It's all unrealistic (and stupid) things I'm tired of in the hobby. I'm particularly annoyed when I see inadequate packaging, because I'm a quality inspector that works in a receiving department. I have to take pictures and write up reports on damage. It's a waste of time and money because insurance companies deny the claims as a first response.

yea, i dont want to get into a whole other convo on the condition of books that arrive safely. Just those damaged in transit. I plan to sell some of my books eventually to streamline my collection and fund new pickups but have yet to do so because i dont have the room to store 100 gemini mailers and wouldnt ship in anything else. Ive sold many retro video games online and never had a problem due to my insistance that i ship in the hard usps small flat rate box covered in brown package wrap and charged $5 everytime. No media mail. No bargain shipping. Just what it costs and solid packaging and peace of mind. But paying $7 to ship 2 books and getting a a bent photo mailer that starts at $1.00 for 13 ounces for first class is pretty frustrating.

I don't buy online unless I'm willing to take the risk of inadequate packaging. I will always request a box if given the option. I also quit selling online due to unrealistic expectations by buyers. One guy insisted on buying a $2 NM comic and insisted that I use a manila envelope and use media mail to keep the shipping costs down. There is no reason for him to believe he'd get a NM comic if I shipped it the way he requested.

I tried to predict ahead on one sale. I listed a hard to find NM comic as VF and charged a NM price. The guy was impressed with the condition of the comic and packaging. He was content with what I charged. He writes me back and asks if I have anymore because the comic wasn't mint. I had about 10 copies of the comic and the rest of the stack all graded 9.2 or greater by the CGC when I had them graded months later. I reminded the guy that I sold it as VF. I told him I was not willing to sift through the comics to find a Mint copy. I told him that he was welcome to buy another copy at the same price and take his chances on getting a Mint copy. That shut him up.I honestly think he expected me to incur the additional costs of shipping to pick out a better condition copy than he'd purchased.

I don't sell comics with the intention of losing money or buy them with the intention of receiving damaged comics. I prefer to sell in person where we can both agree that the condition and price are acceptable.
edited by Defiant1 on 6/6/2020

just cancelled about a dozen offers out before they were accepted. The packaging question has to be asked before i even make offers now. Who has time to deal with sending packages back daily? Not to mention finding the books you wanted at a great price just to see them ruined. I must say the sellers here have always gone above and beyond to do the right thing afterward. I dont want to discourage anyone from buying here because its great. I just recommend talking to the seller to make sure your books are sent the way you prefer.

we need to talk about this. Envelopes and photo mailers are not for shipping comics. I have had 2 packages damaged in the last 2 days. Both from sellers on this site. Gemini mailers are a dollar. Even close to 50 cents each when ordering 100+. This last one had a $12 shipping charge. Now im gonna pay to send it back and hope the full refund includes the original shipping i paid. The one yesterday had a $7 shipping charge and arrived in a photo mailer. Whats the $7 charge for? Lunch? Idk. We can do better. Does anyone else here believe cardboard gemini mailers are the only way to ship securely? The package today had 5 pieces of cardboard with a comic in between each. The crease went through them all because they were ribbed horizontally. 4 key books. I didnt even open the packaging all the way. Just enough to see all the spines creased. Nobody should have $60 packages arrived damaged.
edited by comicsdangotsigned on 6/5/2020
