Is Journey Into Mystery #58 (May 1960) a prototype cover for Fantastic Four #1 (Nov 1961)?
If so, should there be a note stating such?
Just curious.

after 60 years with no guide calling it a prototype cover, I doubt anyone thinks it is. You can find tons of earlier covers that are very similar to later ones, that are not 'homage' covers, so not uncommon. I think 'prototype' covers would only be used in pre-production, and who knows if Marvel even had FF on the drawing board when JIM 58 came out. You'd have to Ouija board Jack Kirby and ask him if the FF cover was inspired by the JIM cover to know for sure.

That's a 'NO' from KDS Comics - I am sure you can find many more "Monsters from underground" type covers - does not mean it is a prototype.
(As opposed to monsters coming out of the ocean a or monsters from the sky - really only three choices here!)
