I am looking to sell Action Comics #58. I haven't been able to find much of a sales history for it. It has a racist cover "Superman says: YOU can slap a Jap...with War Bonds and Stamps!"

This book has two covers. The outer cover is complete (no tears, etc but has some staining). The inner cover is pristine. The spine is a bit rolled and the page color is to be expected for its age. It only has one center staple fully intact.

So, my questions for you old timer experts-

1. Should I have this professionally graded? Is a Misprint something that should be sealed up? Or perhaps it is worth more to a dealer that will match the second cover to another copy.

2. Am I allowed to sell this on Ebay? Since I have seen no sales history for this issue (only two listings without covers) I am worried it will be flagged because of the cover content.

3. If I should have it graded, can you recommend anyone in New York City? I will also take recommendations for mail-away services.

Thank you so much for reading. If I have posted this in the wrong place, I apologize in advance.

Thanks!

I’d love to have that book if I had the money! As far as I know CGC when grading, grades both covers. I would NOT take outer cover off to sell separate from book itself unless I actually knew a buyer for the cover for amount I’d want. No doubt if selling THAT book, get it graded, you’ll make more, lots more if in a certain grade.
Heck ya sell it on eBay and I wouldn’t worry about the cover art and statements on it, it’s history baby! You’d be surprised how many “adult” magazines or books with covers that sellers show on their auctions that never get flagged that are too adult for scans to be shown. You would not have a problem selling on eBay. Lots of current comics is themed for adults that leave no imagination of a women figures so your book is pretty tame.
Also there is a comic auction site that will get your book graded before selling it for you if interested too, Comiclink.com.......Sorry don’t live in your area to help with local comic shop.
GREAT BOOK TO OWN, I’m envious and let us know when you finally sell it. Good luck in all involved.

There is a difference between "adult themed" and "highly offensive". Your book falls into the second category for some people. eBay has removed actual historical Confederate themed Civil War relics because it offends some people. eBay can't catch everything but there is a good chance your listing gets pulled.
