Then there's the additional stuff like newsstand versus direct edition, where I believe not all copies for the newsstand run had the tattoo insert in it (this may only be with the Canadian cover price copies though). But, since it's easy enough to remove, how do you know if one has one that was printed without it?

I picked up my copy of ASM #238 back in the mid 90's. I was very particular to make sure the tattoo was still intact, as it seemed a reasonably big deal back then.
