Back in the 70's, why did publishers paint a reddish ink-dye on the edges of magazines and paperbacks? I have a nice copy of Vampire Tales #2 with this ink dye on the edge. I'm sure it drops the value of the book, but how much?

google is your friend . DISTRIBUTORS, not publishers, put those stripes on the top edges. It's called Distributor Ink or spray or stripes. If it doesn't run over to the cover, generally it won't affect value, especially for 70s stuff since almost all will have it. more info: https://comicbookrealm.com/topic/21/9247/some-remarks-on-distributor-stripes-distro-ink edited by collectibleshop on 6/7/2018
