Sometime guides are a bit high or a bit low.

I'd say:
Standard Tier for:
- ASM #129
- Batman Adventures #12
- NYX #3
- Strange Adventures #205

Economy Tier for:
- Hero for Hire #1

Value Tier for:
- Spiderman #162

Modern Tier for:
- Moon Girl #28

This sounds like a reasonable expectation. However, if there are any that are sitting on the border of tiers I would make sure I did a check on realized prices before committing. It is hard trying to figure out what a book may get after pressing but if you take a look at some graded examples on defect that are not removable by press and see how they hurt a grade that helps. For example, on NYX there was a common manufacture defect on the back that kinda look like a large cup was sitting on it as there is often a round indent and ripple. It is very faint but all my copies have had it. that presses out. As well as most non-colour breaking light creases. however, as is common with many moderns. The spine corners can have very minor scuffing or abrasions and these will remain and more than likely give the book a maximum of 9.8 for a grade. If there are any other defect on top of that you are looking at a an even lower grade. One or two very minor defects is all they really tolerate. On ASM 129 any spine crease that has colour break may not completely press out and the break mark will still be there and they will dock it marks.

And what do they mean with "reholder" - just a new slap without grading?

If the slab (holder as they call it) gets cracked you can send it in to be re-holdered. It won't go through the grading process again just get a fancy new case.

I see, this is going to be expensive :-(((.

It adds up very fast and is even more costly if you don't live in the States. I have only sent stuff in a few times and not very many at a time as I usually will only send stuff in when I have an item worth much more money slabbed that I am intending to sell. This way that item (or two items) cover the total grading costs of everything I send in. I do it this way because there is lots of stuff that I just want slabbed that I have no intention of selling at this time and it obvious that that is something that really does not make practical sense unless you can cover the cost with something you can sell for good coin.
edited by oxbladder on 4/5/2018
edited by oxbladder on 4/5/2018

With tiers there are two criteria.

1) the year your book is from
2) the FMV or fair market value. This means how much is the book right now in the grade you think it is. So, if you think your NYX 3 is a 9.8 right now how much would you get for it? If that exceeds the maximum value of that tier then you have to figure out which tier it then fits in (hint: in the case of NYX 3 a 9.4-9.8 ungraded copy will push it out of the Modern Tier)

Pressing I don't know once you figure out the different tiers I am fairly sure that that would give you an idea of both the pricing for grading and what the pricing would be for pressing.

Submitting-wise you don't have to buy a membership you just have to submit through someone who has one. There are plenty of online places to go to. However, there are perks to buying a membership and only you can figure out if that is a benefit to you or not.

You also have to consider return shipping costs in your total.

So, ultimately, you do have to understand and be able to grade your own books so you can figure out costs. Keep in mind that if you underestimate the grade and it ends out assigned to different tier they will charge you the difference. So you want to figure out what grade the books are now and what you could reasonably expect grade-wise once the books are pressed. So, what defects do you think will be be eliminated by pressing and what will remain and what that means to the grade. Pressing and cleaning will NOT correct all defects.
edited by oxbladder on 4/3/2018

Hi, i'm new on cpg and i'm loving it (why do i fell hungry??). I'm from vienna, austria and i'd like to grade some of my comics. And although i was on the cgc website i still don't really understand how it works and what the prices are. Can some experienced cgc grader help me with this.

I also considering to press and clean some of my books befor sending them to cgc, so i thought i use ccs since they are in the same building, right?

So my questions are, how does it work exactly? Do i just have to send my books to ccs and they clean them, press them and send them to cgc? And how do i pay? Do i have to buy a membership? And i don't understand the "comic grading tiers". What does maximum value means?

I would like to clean, press and grade these books:

- Amazing Spider-Man #129
- Batman Adventures #12
- Hero for HIre #1
- NYX #3
- Spiderman #162
- 6x Moon Girl #28
- Strange Adventures #205

.... and some others.

How much would that be? As i said - cleaning, pressing, grading.

I would be really happy if someone could explain the whole process step-by-step, for dummys so to say :-).

Thank you very much,
Daniel
