Drew was ranching around a power plant when a tornado touched down by its waste area. The tornado, with now nuclear winds, ran right into Drew and then threw him into the power plant. When Drew tried to run away he accidentally formed a tornado around his legs. Drew moved to NY in order to capture the Frightful Four and also test out his newly found abilities. Soon after he helped the Fantastic Four beat the Frightful Four, Nick Fury asked Drew to help him by joining a new team that S.H.I.E.L.D. was starting called the Super-Agents in order to defeat a criminal group called the Corporation.
In his earlier days as a superhero, Drew was often seen with Firebird. He came to her aid when she disappeared, even attacking Hawkeye in the process.
During the Civil War, Texas Twister registers under the Superhuman Registration Act and joins the Thunderbolts Army. The Thunderbolts had to fight off cities filled with civilians who were suddenly empowered when the Grandmaster opened up the Wellspring of Power. The Thunderbolts were broken up into numerous squads and sent to various locations throughout the world. Texas Twister was part of the Beta squad which also consisted of the Bloodstrike, Smiling Tiger, Coronary, and Pretty Persuasion. This group was responsible for maintaining order in Los Angeles.
Texas Twister would be recruited into the Initiative and join the Rangers which was the superhero team based in the state of Texas. One of his first missions was to protect the President and civilians during an attack by a HYDRA terror carrier that teleported into a no-fly zone over Crawford, Texas.
