Earl,
Thanks for the welcome!
I've got a system that allows users on ValiantComics.com to submit their Valiant collection inventory numbers and I store them in a "collector database".
Here are the details of the Valiant collectors on the site... http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/collectorpoints.asp (97 guys taking part so far... plus one "sample collection".) |

Non-superhero books don't count... Nintendo books (Super Mario, etc.) and WWF Wrestling comics aren't included on my site.
Also, Acclaim books (1997-2002) aren't "Valiant Comics"... They're Acclaim comics that "re-launched" some of the Valiant titles.
Acclaim collectors can take part as well... Here's the Acclaim collectors list (Valiant-related titles): http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/acclaimcollector.asp
For a visual reference, all of the comic book covers can be seen here: http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/library.asp |

valiantman, How tough are the uncut Magnus Robot Fighter card sheets to get? I bought one a few weeks ago for $25 from a guy who I'd offered $50 to a couple years back and he wouldn't take it. Glad I waited. Are those tough to get? I've been trying to get one for the past seven years. He had two, but sold one for $100 (that's what he told me, but it may have been more than that, because he was pretty high on is VALIANT prices). Also, I have some cool stuff from VALIANT. I used to correspond with the people at VALIANT (Jim Shooter corrected me once, telling me it's VALIANT, not Valiant) fairly regularly and I have some VALIANT notes and envelopes that were sent to me way back when the company first started. I actually have a free copy of Harbinger 0 pink that was mailed to me simply because I wrote and asked for it. VALIANT was a great company and they had some great people working there. I really enjoyed my correspondence with them. |

You're Michael Browning, huh? Well, I guess it's about time we chatted!!! Your "blurbs" in the Overstreet Market Reports for the past few years were the ONLY indication that anything was going on with Valiant. (Yes, I spell it "Valiant" without all the caps... I'm a heathen.)
The uncut Magnus sheets (showing the trading cards originally included in Magnus #1 through #8) are fairly uncommon. I'd say $50 is a good price, so $25 is definitely a good price.
One thing to get along those lines is an uncut Unity card sheet... It was "redeemed" for 300 of the Unity card wrappers... and no one's sure how many were sent. (300 wrappers was a LOT for a no-name comic company in 1992.)
I'd like to see those notes you were sent from the offices "back in the day". Those would be fun to read...
Overstreet finally let me "sing the praises" this year... so maybe we can get a few changes made in the near future: http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/overstreetmultiples.asp

I'm glad to finally "meet" you...

I've got 219, though I'd say that 25% are duplicates. (Hey, when you're going through the quarter bin and you can't remember if you have it, buy it!) Theres no doubt that the early stuff is just great to read, but as time has gone by, what do you think the chances of the lower print run books will be as far as increased value? (Not special "Gold" edition stuff but things like early Rai, etc.)

Well, it probably depends on what happens as time goes by with the licenses to the characters. For now, Acclaim owns the Valiant original characters and they are in some state of financial difficulty. I would guess that a few publishers would be interested in picking up those characters if they're sold someday.
The older characters, Magnus, Solar, Turok, aren't owned by Acclaim, so they have different possibilities for the future.
Dark Horse is already soliciting a hardcover book for Sept/Oct 2004 that reprints the Gold Key Magnus stories... iBooks is planning new novels and graphic novels for Magnus.
I don't think the characters will be "quiet" forever... but there's no guarantee that a future "re-vamp" would be any good.
Valiant probably has more potential as nostalgia for the early books, but who knows how far nostalgia can go on its own? |

I have all titles Unity and pre-Unity. I do not know the count.... (about 75 comics?) I do not have the early video game stuff or the Vintage Magnvs and Dr. Solar. I especially enjoyed Solar Man of the Atom (#1-10) and the early MasterDarque stuff and also Harbinger for a nice read.
Archer and Armstrong #0 was the first comic of my "collection." ~ m

Last year I considered going for a complete collection of Valiant Comics, but as I started piling up more and more of the post-Unity stuff, I realized that I not only didn't like it, I just plain detested it.
Since then I've been selling off a lot of the later stuff, even my last copies. Some people differentiate between Valiant and Acclaim, but to me it's all the same company. All I care about is Unity and Pre-Unity. The rest has very little or no value to me. If anything, I actually have more interest in the non-hero Acclain titles like Waterworld, Killer Instinct, and Sliders more than I do the later hero stuff. Unity 2K is an exception. I'll keep those.
I have most of the pre-hero Valiant comics, but I am missing some of the $1.50 reprint Nintendo stuff. I'm missing the Nintendo Action books or whatever they were called. I'm missing one wrestling magazine, but I have the squarebound wrestling comics. I have the Valiant Nintendo Hardback books. I have the 4 (or is it 8) page Nintendo sneak preview flyer.
The ones I need are very difficult to find. I don't usually see them on ebay, but I wouldn't buy them online even if I did. I would guess I have about 4 longboxes worth of stuff, but I'm not sure since it's all scattered around in other boxes.

Hey guys,
I have 274 Valiant issues and wish some of their original values would come back!
Earl... you mentioned that there are 875 issues all up from Valiant. Does this number include the "Valiant Validated Signature Series"?

You want them back up to their original value! I can't imagine ANY of the Valant books after Unity ever getting back up to cover price again!
Even though the signature series by valiant had an ebossed stamp, I don't see that as enough reason to give them their own listing. They were regular editions from the normal print run and they were just set aside for signatures. There are rumors that some of the embossing tools might have made it into the hands of people outside of Valiant after the program was ended. If so, forgeries would be possible.
Most of those books are common and worthless without the embossed stamp. Since the prices people are willing to pay on ebay are a little on the high side, this is a ripe formula for someone to create forged copies with forged coa's.
It would be nice to know how many of the embossing tools existed and where they are now.

CPG should not currently list the Valiant Validated Signature Series mainly because we assumed that they were just signed copies of the normal printing. If they were actually printed with an embossed stamp they would probably qualify for inclusion in our database. Can anyone confirm for me?

Some early releases did not have the embossed stamp. Later it was introduced. When the program was discontinued, there is an indication that some of the embossing tools might not have made it to the trash can. Some totally unrelated Valiant comics have appeared with the embossed stamp on them.
I think someone who shouldn't have the embossing tools has one. If so, that would make forgeries possible.
I have mixed feelings. I don't personally have any interested in them, but the embossed ones probably should be listed in the guide. valiantcomics.com probably tells which ones are embossed and which aren't.
I think Valiant had done a signed book in partnership with Wizard magazine and the whole VVVS promotion evolved from that into actual books that were solicited in Previews.

I've been a Journeyman for quite awhile here. Whatever that level means?! I never look at Greg's actual web site unless I need to see a scan of an oddball Acclaim book or I want to see how many copies of something Greg thinks exist. I think I did look at Dan's list to get his collection up to 100%. Some of the items on Dino's list of 'Valiant related publications" came from me. I gave away a few CSN and magazines to someone who contributed to that list. I'd be able to post more here if the pages loaded faster. I can usually surf at work while I'm letting some test equipment do it's measuring. Alt+Tab is a wonderful tool when multuitasking on the computer.
Everytime I looked at Greg's updates it was something about the CGC or the price guide.
