So, I've run across this auction on eBay:
2282: FLASH.SILVER AGE LOTOF FOUR
Anyone ever participated in one of these? Looking over the terms & conditions, it says there's an 18% "Buyer's Premium," and on top of that NY state residents must pay 8.625% in taxes. By my reckoning, that's almost 27% extra they expect me to pay!!!
What?
Where's the incentive? The comics don't look like they're in stellar condition or anything. I mean, they look good, but not the best I've ever seen or anything. And that one picture is all I have to go by, as there's zero description given. And to top it off, just in case I was thinking maybe I'd give it a shot anyway, their fine print says that even if I have the high bid, I might not win anyway.
It sounds ridiculous. I could understand if it was that sweet Action #1 we've been seeing, then they'd have the leverage to abuse me to their hearts' content (contents?), but for a few Flash comics...?
So, anyone tried this out? Is it less lame and expensive than it seems to me?

| Never participated because the buyer premium. I agreed 18% is ridiculous. It's something I dont understand even for ultra high grade GA books. For that you have Christie's

| It's reputable seller and you are sure you get what you are bidding for, but still the buyer premium is ridiculous.

It may seem ridiculous but it is also pretty much the standard. The buyer's premium is the incentive for the auction company to sell, because that is their money. It is also an incentive for them to make sure it sells and sells as high as it can. Those books, the estimate is high, maybe $50 or so but not close to $200.
And the reason you might not win even if you are the high bidder is because the auction will probably be live and you are merely placing an absentee bid, which means someone can top that bid in person or by proxy. This is why internet auctions are so laughable/loved by people. Some are addicted to it and some think people have lost their minds. It's EBay on a bigger scale.
But let them go, it is not worth it unless you won it for $10.00.
Also state taxes are charged to everyone who buys something from a person within their own state on EBay.
Where does he get those wonderful toys!
I have yet begun to surrender.

Yeah, I'll be letting them go. I think I have them all already anyway.
It just seemed silly to me: I see these same issues offered on eBay quite frequently as regular old listings, not all together I suppose but that's no big deal. For comics that are seen pretty much all the time, I'd never give anyone an extra 18%.
