I was adding my collection in and found that the covers to some of my issues didn't match exactly to the ones that are shown on the site.  I'm not sure what the rules or standards are on variants...Obviously if the cover is totally different, then it makes it a variant.  But how small can the differences be to make it a varient?

Here's the issues that I have a problem with:

X-Men (1991-2001, 2004-2008) #23 and #31

The Bar Code is different and some of the codes and symbols that appear under the issue # are different.  Do these differences make it a variant?

If anyone could give me an answer or point me in the right direction, the help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

I should clarify the barcode dilema.  The barcode that appears on the site says "Direct Edition", but my copies do not.  Does this matter?

No it doesn't matter. The differences you are seeing are simply the difference between direct editions sold to comic shops (and the like) on a non-returnable basis, and their newsstand counterparts which can be returned unsold for credit. The differences are done so that the non-returnable copies cannot be used for credit. That is all.
