Ive been having fun with the internet and filling in holes in my FF collection.I recently read number 157.one thing I noticed is Johny's red suit. My question is what issue did he start wearing it and why?

Did it have somthing to do with the Original Torch and copyright issue because thats how Herbie the robot came into play.

Or maybe the Wrighters of the time just gave hime a red suit.

I can't answer the costume question, but I believe that Herbie came into play not because of any copyright issue, but because of the network that was airing the Fantastic Four cartoon at the time.  The network was not comforable showing a hero the was on fire becaue they feared that children would want to emulate him and light themselves on fire.  Hence, Herbie was born and took the place of the Human Torch on the cartoon and started to show up in the comics.  At least, that is my understanding of the situation.

That is correct sir! And John Byrne turned that idea into a story during his run, when a kid lights himself on fire to be like the torch.

As to the red costume -- I've read the issues and I don't recall a specific reason as to why they switched him to red. If it was the '90s, I'd say to boost sales but that's not likely the reason in the '70s.

The Human Torch adopts a red and gold costume in Fantastic Four #132-159, in emulation of the Golden Age Human Torch. Panel from Fantastic Four #132 (Mar, 1970), art by John Buscema and Joe Sinnott. © Marvel Comics.

This was what I found on the subject.

I've got a brand new funny video for my collectibles research website, Part 2 of the "Gotham Growl" with Batman (the Dark Knight version).
