texranger37 (8/27/2009) Hey Earl!!
How are you? Love those file cabinets!
TEXDoing fine. I have been quiet on the forums for the last week or so as I am buisier than normal at work and my comics time has been spent on sorting my comics in my comics room and adding the last months buys to my excel spreadsheet index. I have not purchased anything new since that Jimmy Olsen I posted. In terms of arranging my room I now have all my Marvel's, Alias, Crossgen, Immortelle, Innovation, Pacific, Speakeasy comics in alpha numeric order by publisher in their new cabinets. I will be working on getting my DC's in alpha numeric order this weekend. Earl.

I have not read many comics for the last couple of weeks so tonight I picked up a comic from my new arrivals pile and enjoyed some actual reading. The comic I read was Superman annual 14. Marketed as the origin of Mon-El the comic in reality (probably wisely) avoided most of the rather complex back-story of Mon-El and instead focussed mainly on the history of his planet Daxam. All in all it was a pretty tight story by James Robinson and it felt like there was a lot more going on than in a typical modern comic. The story starts prior to the founding of the planet Daxam and ends with Mon-El’s journey to earth and his meeting with the young Clark. The story breaks new ground in the history of Daxam and Mon-El rather than being a condensation of the characters earlier appearances. Robinson perhaps avoids addressing the various continuity issues with Mon-El which makes for a better story but still leaves the continuity concerned reader with perhaps too many unanswered questions. Recommended. rJJ!Bmk~$(KGrHgoOKkMEjlLmV,uSBKj(nL!roQ~~_12.JPG)

| Today I read the 1st of Fantagrapics new Hardcover editions of Prince Valiant. This is a beautiful Treasury Sized edition that does credit to Hal Fosters beautiful creativity. The first volume covers the years 1937-1938 starting at the beginning with the exile of Valiant's father and their arrival in the English Fens, through Vals first meetings with Arthur, Merlin, Ilene, Arn and the introduction of the Valiant mythos; Thule, Flamberge and Gwain. Hey Earl,
Thanks for the reviews on the Superman Annual and the Prince Valiant Hardcover. I haven't read Prince Valiant since I was a child. It was printed in the Sunday Papers where I lived until the late 1980's I think.

| Yesterday my latest order from Mycomishop.com arrived and I spent 20 minutes last night logging the new arrivals on CPG and updating my collection spreadsheet. I may be returning to playing darts in a few weeks so this morning saw a short 20-minute darts practice followed by some reading. Now the downstairs comics room is coming together, I only have about 8,000 comics left in the old upstairs comic room so I can actually move around he room for the first time in years, and I was able sit down at my desk to read (it’s usually buried deep in comics, but is now clear). First up was Adventure comics 504/1. Now I have to say that DC made me happy by retaining the original numbering on this series on one of the two versions of this book at least . I have a full run of the 70’s and 80’s editions of this title and I seem to remember in the early days of my collecting I had more back issues of Adventure Comics than any other DC title. Issue 1 was $3.99 (ouch) and although I have started to get variant fatigue I took the plunge and got both covers to this issue. Geoff Johns has a strong fan base and I am one of them. Here Johns writes a nice Superboy tale that spells out pretty clearly what Superboy is about. There are some nice scenes with Krypto and Ma Kent and Johns writes a very likable Superboy character. The backup story with the Legion was less impressive and I am not sure what Johns was trying to achieve other than serve as a teaser for storylines upcoming in the future to pardon a pun. Recommended. | From mycomicshop.com today...

I also read Adventure Comics 0 that came in my latest package. This issue was released earlier in the year. It was only $1 and contains a reprint of the first Legion story from Adventure 247 and an Origins and Omens back up story. Again the backup serves only as a teaser, this time of upcoming mysteries in both Blackest Night and Adventures Comics itself but does not have much story in it's own right. The art shines however.
