So my wife and I just got home insurance. I really should have had it much sooner but I was cheaping out until now. So anyway I figured after tallying up the value of the things in our home that my collection is worth $25000 give or take based on its value on this site and the rest of our ownings are about another 25k or so. So I insured things for 50k and we got a nice package for about $25 a month.

I spoke to them today about the comics to make sure and turns out they only reimburse up to $1000 max for a comic book collection without a proven appraisal. I asked where/how I could do that and whether I could submit my excel spreadsheet from this site and have that work. They suggested maybe the owner of my lcs could verify and sign that it was valid. Its kind of far fetched really though as I have 6000 books and he's not going to go down the list and make sure I'm not lying. I think I might have to scale things back to only my top 100 books or maybe top 200 or so. I pains me to leave some behind but beyond the top 200 there are mostly books at less than $20 each.

I know there are some places that deal specifically with comic book insurance. Any have any good luck with them and what are the premiums like. I'd hate to lose the collection in a fire or theft. Its unlikely but paying for home insurance that doesn't cover my most valuable material possession annoys me!

Here's a link to the only one that I have looked into so far:

I haven't gotten anything insured yet, but I am looking into it too.
