| Has this been discussed? I've been trolling the comic sites and have noticed a pick up in Hulk 180 prices (especially CGC'd VF/NM and above). Both 180 or 181 are rather plentiful but with Incredible Hulk #181 topping crazy prices are collectors on budgets settling for Wolverine's 1st slight cameo appearance in lue of the more popular 181? Has this been a growing trend for longer than the one year that I've noticed it? Is it only because of the recession?...I'm just wondering

Great forum title. I think there has always been a market for 180 with 181 priced beyond reach for many collectors. Plus there is that factor where its technically the first appearance.....

In the early '80s, Overstreet had 180 listed with a higher value than 181, since it really is the first appearance. The market ended up dicatating otherwise.

I think the poor man's route would be Hulk #184 with Wolverine on the letters page and a letter stating that he should be part of the X-Men.
I don't even think about these books much or the prices they go for. I bought my copies for cover price.

In 1974 I bought 5 copies of Hulk 180 at the 7-11, extras 'cuz I collected Wrightson. Only one of 181. Then I went and sold all my comics in '85, way too soon -- X-Men had started climbing, but none of the other silver Marvels. Oh, well. I'll probably never sell another comic ever, best way to avoid making THAT mistake.

I believe we all have those comic book regrets that make us fear letting go too soon. 30 years later you can wallpaper the Smithonian with the comics you've kept.
