AuburnTiger (4/22/2008) I've never really cared for FCBD. As a pretty regular reader they don't have to convince me; I already buy them. Plus, with few exceptions they never really offer anything I'm interested in.
I'm sure it's fun for kids or new readers, though. However, I've never read anything that says that the FCBDs have lead to a growth in new readership. The problem is that FCBD occurs only at comic retailers... They need to expand the service to Wal-marts, Barnes & Nobles, Targets, etc. Get the books into places that non readers and parents actualy go to already. Doing this would actually expose the books to a wider audience outside of traditional comic book stores.

It's not going to happen, unfortunately. The comic retailers actually have to pay for those comics. Marvel/DC, etc., don't provide them for free.I can't really see Barnes & Noble or wal-Mart paying to give away something that they don't sell in the first place.

Yeah after Walmart "helped" decay the collector's market further durring the 90s.....they got out of the racket pretty quick....granted it did get people to buy books since they were right there in the public view......but just like Wizard they tried to make it seem that the books durring that time period were gold printed on paper.....which wasnt the case by any means...... So i dont see that happening either...
