I just bought Ultimate Spider Man 25 CGC's SIGNATURE SERIES 9.8 signed by Bendis and Bagley on ebay. My question is does a comic book being signed worth more then one not signed. I am looking to start collecting more comics like this but want to get some opinions before I open my wallet up. Also how would I go about finding the truw value of this comic? thx

| Yes and no. Some hate signatures as it defaces the book, so it is worth less. Then there are those that like signatures, so it is worth more. If you're happy with it, who cares? To find worth you probably need to look at completed auctions on eBay for a similar copy (or post yours for sale, which defeats the purpose of collecting it in the first place). I think signatures are more of a 'what the market will bear' value rather than a hard set rule of thumb like 10% higher than guide.

| If you're going to collect graded comics (even signature series ones) you must consider a subscription to www.gpanalysis.com Think of it as a market analysis tool for comic books. Signature series books are also represented in their market data.
  Always looking for Giant-Size Marvels and Extreme High Grade Vampirella's Savage Sword of Conan Magazines needed VF++ or better: 18, 30, 31, 32, 33, 36, 55, 61, 98, 129, 132, 134, 141, 143, 145, 151, 171, 179, 191, 192, 194, 196-211, 215, 216, 217, 218, 221, 222, 223, 224, 226, 227, 228, 229, 235

I'd love to have a Charlie Chaplin #1 from the early 1900's, but I'd pay less if it was signed by the artist. But if it was signed by the Little Tramp himself...BONNG!!! KnowhutImean? TEX

Thanks for all the info...Any opinions on the purchase? Do you think this comic will be worth something in a couple years? I just thought since Bagley and Bendis hold the longest continuous run of any creative team on a mainstream Marvel superhero comic, beating the record set by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Thought that having a comic signed by both could become valuable. (as long as the record isnt broken)

Well,
When it comes to purchasing moderns, I'm of the opinion that one should buy them because one likes them primarily. The modern comic is way more widely dispersed than the comics of any age I think, and if that isn't correct (I think it is), modern comics last way longer because of the materials that they are printed with and printed on, so they are sure to be less rare in the future. Modern comics that actually make huge jumps in value are few and far between. If you are trying to collect for value's sake I'd humbly recommend (cuz I would not dare tell a collector what to do) that you stick to the Golden, and Silver Ages of comics sprinkled with the important Bronze Age and modern 1sts and keys.
Comics that usually go up in value are 1st appearances, and key issues (deaths, costume changes, certain story arcs, low print runs in some cases, etc). But remember that a comic is only worth as much as someone will pay for it, that is to say that no matter how rare a comic is someone has to want it. Unfortunately, I do not think that the comic you bought is a 1st, or a key. The only reason that it may appreciate a bit is because of the CGC grading and the signatures might be of interest to a Bagley and Bendis fan.
I wish you good luck with your collecting and I hope you stay on these boards. Here you will learn nearly all there is to know about collecting and get a feel for which way you truly want to go with your collecting. I did.
Enjoy!!

Is it worth more than a CGC 9.8, yes. How much? *Shrugs* Nothing really special about the issue but the fact that you got it signed and still got a 9.8 makes it slightly more valuable...to some. Combine it with a collection of Ultimate Spidey's in 9.8 and it will be worth something but by itself, no not really.
Where does he get those wonderful toys!
I have yet begun to surrender.
