I am just curious, as this is definitely NOT a valuable copy...
I have Ghost Rider vol. 2 #28 (1992) "Rise of the Midnight Sons", that is still in the original plastic bag with "Bonus Poster".
(I told you it was not valuable!)
But still, what will happen if I leave this copy in that bag forever. I know they didn't ship it in Mylar, but still, it is unopened and never touched by human hands (oooooh!) So I am guessing that this means it is in like 9.9 condition? (What gets a 10 anyway?)

NOTE: I plan on buying a second copy ("Goodbye five dollars!") to enjoy reading. I will leave this one bagged IF doing so does not damage it over 50 years.

In optimum conditions the bag will deteriorate slowly but it will break down eventually and gases/vapours give off in that breakdown can result in damage to your book. The bags can cause transfer staining, yellowing of the pages or the book to become slightly more acidic (that vinegar like smell). Heat will cause the fastest breakdown.

Unless a book is exceptionally rare/uncommon I would not keep the book in the bag much more than 10 years max and only that long if the bag is surviving well (ie hasn't become tacky, yellow, etc). what I always suggest is carefully opening the bag and placing the contents in a bag and board. Then take the poly bag, fold it up and place it in it's own bag and then either place it with the book in storage or on the back side of the bag and board. If there is no markings on the bag (ie printing) then I would just pitch the poly bag altogether.

That is my experience and opinions. HTH.

(FYI if you shipped this to CGC poly bagged the would NOT grade it unless you had given them permission to remove it from the poly ... which they would then discard. So for CGC the bag has zero value or influence towards the grade. Also just because it is bagged does not mean it is automatically a high grade. The bag offers little in protection)

I have owned several books that I never removed from the original polybag and have had serious staple rust. Leaving it in the bag doesn't prevent bending either. So in bag doesn't = 9.9 .

As for what gets a 10.0? Random luck.
