| So I started collecting comic books again. I've been buying books on and off for years, but I'm going to take my collecting seriously now. Not quite sure what to do with a couple of hundred bagged, but unboarded books that range from NM to Poor condition. These are the books I owned before I learned how to properly store comics and they are separated from my other books. I checked the price guide for all of them and they aren't very valuable at the moment; even in NM. But some of these hold some sentimental value for me, though. I would really appreciate it if I could get some advice from you guys. Are these worth preserving?

All comics are worth preserving if you have/do enjoy reading them imo. My WildC.A.T.s are utter worthless, as with most of my early 90's image issues, but I still board and bag them same as V2 Green Lantern, V1 Daredevil, whatever. A stack of 100 boards and bags should run you between $12 and $15, and a longbox from your local comic store won't put you out more than 4 to 6 bucks more. If nothing else, re-bagging and boarding all those old issues and continuing to do so with anything new you find from now on will a) give you a nice, clean starting point and b) maintain the uniformity of your collection's storage system.

I agree. Get off to a good start and bag and board all those puppies. In my opinion, you'll be less inclined to get frustrated if your collection looks good from the get go. And, if you end up upgrading some of your more sentimental but less valuable comics, then you'll already have a bag and board ... welcome aboard ratcrack.

I bag and board ALL my comics. Even Free Comic Day ones and my son's Marvel Adventures ones.
For me - I figure some day my grandkids will appreciate it. And maybe their kids will appreciate it. And their kids...

I don't really collect anything just for it's value. Most, if not all, of my collection is based on interest and sentimentality. I try to be uniform and protect them regardless of their actual value. I've got comics in mylar sleeves and x-tender boards that are worth less than the value of the sleeve and board

Welcome back to the hobby, Ratcrack. Like you, I just got back into collecting comics about two months ago after being away for 20+ years. I'm still in the process of inventorying and bagging and boarding all of my comics (most of which were already bagged and boarded, but am replacing). All of them are sentimental to me, and as I go through them, I'm amazed that when I look at them, I recognize the cover artists and recall when I purchased many of them. Ah, the memories....
Bagging and boarding will help preserve and protect your comics. I think it is a must for a serious collector. Good luck and keep your eyes open to the forums. You will learn a lot from these folks.

That's exactly what I need to do. Right now, those books are sitting inside some old dusty boxes that are falling apart. I really need to deal with them. Off I go to buy some supplies.
