| Actually, the cover is completely split on the spine. If you look closely, you can see the split from the top of the book to right next to the "S", then the split goes down to the edge of the book. The bottom staple is holding the back cover in place. The cover does not overlap the right edges and if i try to line it evenly with the edge the split will be very noticeable. I guess when I first saw the book, I was very surprised to see it in such condition and immediately started to look for flaws. The edge looked too good but, again, upon further inspection, and comparing it to other S/A books, saw that a straight edge like that is a little more common than I thought. I paid about $1,100 fot it which isn't too bad. I had also placed a bid for another ASM1 in much worst condition which ended at just a little under $1,000. That one had a whole list of problems including a missing back page. Here is the picture of that one: 
Comparing the two, I think I did well.
