I'll start with this. It isn't really a collectible or anything because I made it. It's about 8.5" inches tall, made of photosensitive resin. I created the 3D model and printed it off on our 3D printer at work. It took the machine 35 hours to construct. I'm currently working on some Bebop and Rocksteady figures.

Someone: "So I hear you collect Spider-Man comics."
Me: "Yep."
Someone: "Well I happen to have Amazing Spider-Man #92"
Me: "I have #1"
Someone: ".......oh."

It's those little victories that make life worth living.

3-D printers can do that?

I had no idea they were already so advanced.

Yep, they can. Toy companies have been using them for awhile.

Close to photo-realism.

"Custom" Megos & Lego mini-figs are solid sellers on eBay. Collectors love to have the toy that was never made. Your TMNT is so much cooler than a repainted Lego dude.

I already have TMNT figures, if there was a Dr Bong (from Howard the Duck) I'd be sorely tempted to buy one. Bet lots of WoW players would want one of their avatar...

And when you're designing the toy, it doesn't really matter if your computer and the printer are in the same country or not. There's going to be money to be made with this tech. Could even be a print-on-demand deal, like we have with some books.

35 hrs is too slow, reminds me of the $1 million+ computer from the 50s that could print up to 3 pages per minute (text only, single font set to choose from).

Yep, it's awesome. Thanks for sharing.

I drew a stick figure last night and one leg was shorter than the other ... I suck!

That is incredible Harvest.

INDEED!!

You got some serious know-how in your noggin Harvest! When you said Beebop, didja mean Cowboy Beebop? I'm not really an anime fan but I love that show! A Spike action figure would make me lose it. Yu-Yu Hakusho too!!

 AMAZING!!

Wow, thanks for the kind words fellas.

Robbie: 35 hours might seem like a long time, but it really isn't considering once the original is done, it can be molded and mass produced quickly. The powder based printers are faster but can't compete with the quality of the resin. In time the technology will improve of course, but its already come a long way. Watching this thing work is like watching something from Star Trek.

Tex: I meant Bebop and Rocksteady from the TMNT cartoon, sorry.
