Also, the difference between Overstreet & CPG is that you can come here and ask a question about why a price is listed as it is. I'll even credit the answers as being reasonable and intelligent. Overstreet doesn't update prices even when their expert advisers research it for them and hand them the data. At least here you can interact and point people to objective evidence as to why a price should be different.

Yup. Earl is a perfect example of someone who takes the advice of others and takes time to update us all and interact with us.

It just seems like everyone in this industry likes to fish from the same pool of potential fans. There are still a lot of people who don't know this site exists.

Publishing a price guide isn't going to change that. Did you know that there are actually at least three price guides published annually? Did you know that there are alot of people that do know about this site and don't think very much of it?

Also, the difference between Overstreet & CPG is that you can come here and ask a question about why a price is listed as it is.

And I am sure you can write or call the Overstreet people too. So what if they are not online to answer questions? It is a GUIDE not a bible. Just like this site. IMO they both have prices that I would question. All guides are like that and that is why having a guide is only a small part of valuing your collection or buying wisely. The other harder part is knowing the market and the availability of what you are collecting.

In the last three years I have hardly used my OSPG and this site because I either buy new or I know the market on what I am buying well enough that I don't need to know the price. Other than when I am buying I don't worry about value because it is a dynamic thing and I don't sell.

I'll even credit the answers as being reasonable and intelligent.

Well since Overstreet doesn't have a public forum the point is moot. Isn't it?

Overstreet doesn't update prices even when their expert advisers research it for them and hand them the data.

And you know this for sure? Prices can change alot throughout a year and in regions there can be lots of difference. As well, lots of prices don't change because the supply and demand keep the prices low. Just because it is one year later doesn't mean that the price has to change.

At least here you can interact and point people to objective evidence as to why a price should be different.

And again how do you know that this doesn't happen with the Overstreet?

What you don't get is that if you froze this list and only edited the prices once a year you would have the same thing as Overstreet and have the very same criticisms. Publishing a monthly guide would be a huge expense and be essentially pointless. IMO I have the same issues with both sources. Both serve their purpose.

IMO the Overstreet reports and the premium/platinum/ big little/ etc sections can't be beat. Slag Overstreet all you want but you cannot deny that it has had and continues to have a major influence on this industry. It could improve but so could this site.

I'm not going to respond to this crap reply line for line. Splitting a message up to responding line by line is flat out annoying and it is a common practice amongst trolls. I'm not calling you one, but if you act like one, I'll treat you like one. Yes, I do know for a fact that experts can give Overstreet the facts and they still publish old outdated crap for prices. One of my friends was an advisor for them. Their market reviews will say that book "x" sells regularly for $85 a copy then you flip a few pages and it's priced $3 in the guide. They could at least read the comments of their advisors and show some inclination to use their market data. Overstreet is utter crap.

I don't care what people think of the prices on this site. At least they are reviewed, they are compared, and you can get an explanation from the people who did the work. The fact that Overstreet isn't accessible to discuss their pricing makes them that much more out of touch with the market. The fact they drop comics they used to list to fit to a predetermined page count is also pathetic. It has always annoyed me that they don't consider underground comics significant enough to list. I consider Overstreet to be out of touch and irrelevant to the industry at all. I don't think I've bought a copy in ten years and I don't ever plan on buying one again.

I can talk to people at the level they want to talk. A condescending tone to me will get returned in triplicate. I start nice, but I don't have to stay that way if people aren't happy with it. I'm flexible.

Troll eh? Funny how people resort to personal attacks when they don't feel like or cannot prove their points. I know a Overstreet advisor too and while he has had issues with OSPG he still considers them a benefit to the industry. Yes they could probably be more "accurate" for prices but every single guide out there including this one is off on a regular basis. Some price are way too high and some are way too low. It happens it is a guide.

My comments you made about making CPG a published guide was what I was addressing but in your hateon for OSPG you don't even bother addressing those comments. The FACT is is that IF CPG published a annual guide it WOULD fall prey to the very same comments that Overstreet does. Namely that the prices are off and innumerable more questions. Even published monthly CPG would not save it from criticism it would just become another Wizard.

Being online allows the staff to be way more dynamic instead of freezing prices in time and leaving themselves open to the same tripe that OSPG, Wizard, and other price guides face. No matter what you do with a print publication you WILL be behind the trends and that is one of the things that value oriented collectors freak out about.
